Job Summary:
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of production activities during their assigned shift. This role directly oversees machining and assembly operations, ensuring production targets are met while maintaining quality, cost, and delivery performance.
The Shift Supervisor serves as the frontline leader of the production floor, driving execution of daily schedules, enabling job optimization, and leading continuous improvement initiatives. This role is critical in implementing Lean Manufacturing principles, maintaining visual management systems, and ensuring adherence to standardized work in a regulated manufacturing environment.
Duties/Essential Job Functions:
Lead shift operations across machining and assembly to meet safety, quality, delivery, and productivity goals.
Maintain a safe, organized, and 5S-compliant work environment by addressing risks and enforcing safety procedures.
Execute daily production plans, prioritize work orders, and coordinate shift handoffs to keep operations running smoothly.
Supervise, coach, and develop operators and leads while reinforcing standard work, training, and performance expectations.
Monitor production performance, escalate issues, and lead problem-solving to remove bottlenecks and improve flow.
Drive Lean and continuous improvement efforts, including visual management, waste reduction, setup improvement, and Kaizen activities.
Optimize labor, machines, and material availability to maximize productivity and support schedule adherence.
Partner with planning, engineering, and continuous improvement teams to improve routings, work instructions, and process performance.
Ensure compliance with quality system requirements and maintain audit-ready standards for documentation, traceability, and cleanliness.
Required Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field preferred.
5+ years of manufacturing experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
Experience in machining and/or assembly operations, preferably in a regulated industry (medical device, aerospace, etc.).
Demonstrated experience driving production output and meeting schedule commitments in a high-mix, low-volume environment.
Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, standard work, waste reduction, root cause analysis).
Experience with ERP and/or MES systems for production tracking and execution.
Strong problem-solving skills with ability to react quickly to operational issues.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs occasionally, and work in a manufacturing environment.
