Description
North Florida Surgeons- Baptist South division is looking for an energetic, patient focused Medical Assistant/Front Desk team member. NFS - Baptist South is a growing 5 Surgeon General Surgery Practice. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy surgical practice! We are located in the Office Side of Baptist South Hospital. Here's what you'll do:
The General Surgery Medical Assistant bridges patient care and clinic administration. In this role, you support surgeons in both outpatient clinics and surgical centers by managing patient intake, prepping examination/procedure rooms, assisting during minor procedures, and processing surgical paperwork.
Clinical Duties:
- Patient Intake: Record vital signs, review medications, and document the chief complaint in Athena.
- Procedure Setup: Sterilize and prepare medical equipment, lay out sterile instruments, and set up the sterile field for minor surgeries.
- Direct Assistance: Chaperone the surgeon during physical exams, pass surgical instruments, apply pressure for hemostasis (bleeding control), and assist with wound care or dressing changes.
- Diagnostics: Collect and label laboratory specimens
Administrative Duties:
- Scheduling & Pre-op: Schedule surgeries, coordinate diagnostic testing, and ensure patients have completed necessary consent forms.
- Documentation: Manage patient charts, process prior authorizations, and assist with billing/coding data entry.
- Patient Education: Instruct patients on pre-surgery preparation and post-operative wound care and discharge instructions.
Here's what you'll need to do it:
- Must be dynamic, energetic, and detail oriented
- We are looking for a self-starter possessing strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- The applicant must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to multi-task
- Complies with all Federal, State, HIPPA, and OSHA guidelines as well as organizational policies and procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft office software, especially Excel, Outlook, Word
- Prior medical/healthcare experience with at least one major EMR/EHR system, Availity, and familiarity with methods involved in obtaining prior authorizations and insurance eligibility is preferred
- Must demonstrate superior customer service skills and communicating with patients in a courteous, professional, cooperative and respectful manner.
- Must provide two professional references including preferred mode of contact.
Experience:
- Customer service: 1 year (Preferred)
- Medical terminology: 1 year (Preferred)
- High school diploma or GED required, alongside the completion of an accredited medical assisting program.
