Job Summary

The Alternative Education Teacher provides instructional support for students assigned to the Alternative Intervention Program (AIP) and Alternative Learning Center (ALC). This position is responsible for facilitating student academic progress, promoting positive behavioral growth, and supporting successful transitions back to the traditional school setting.

 

In the AIP program, the teacher coordinates, monitors, and supports coursework provided by students' home schools while maintaining communication with staff, students, and families. In the ALC program, the teacher delivers and monitors instruction through the district's approved online curriculum platform, provides individualized academic support, and helps students develop the skills necessary for academic success.

 

The teacher collaborates with administrators, counselors, parents, and school personnel to address academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs while maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.

 


 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Deliver engaging instruction aligned to district curriculum and individual student learning needs.
  • Coordinate and monitor coursework provided by students' home schools for AIP students.
  • Deliver and support instruction through the district-approved online curriculum platform for ALC students.
  • Adapt classroom materials and assignments to support student success and individualized learning plans.
  • Assess student performance through formal and informal measures and use data to guide instruction.
  • Monitor and document student progress toward academic, behavioral, and graduation goals.
  • Support students in earning credits and remaining on track for graduation.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, expectations, and strategies for improvement.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, support staff, and community agencies to support student achievement.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to students regarding academic performance, decision-making, and personal growth.
  • Maintain a positive, structured classroom environment that promotes student engagement and accountability.
  • Manage student behavior using proactive intervention and behavior management strategies.
  • Supervise students in classrooms and other assigned educational settings.
  • Participate in meetings related to student interventions, behavior plans, alternative education programming, and student support services.
  • Maintain accurate records including attendance, grades, assessments, and required documentation.
  • Report incidents and concerns in accordance with district procedures and legal requirements.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and student safety concerns.
  • Direct and support instructional assistants, volunteers, and other assigned personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 


 

Qualifications

 

Education

Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required.

 

Certification

Any Valid Missouri 9�12 Secondary Teaching Certificate required.

 

Experience

Previous teaching experience preferred.

Experience working with at-risk youth, credit recovery programs, behavior intervention programs, alternative education settings, or online learning environments preferred.
