Job Description
Position Summary
As the Head Actuary, you will lead the Actuarial Team and play a critical role in driving financial business objectives through the delivery of high-impact, data-driven insights. You will oversee a team of actuaries, ensuring the timely and effective execution of actuarial work while fostering collaboration with key business units such as Data Science, Finance, and Accounting.
Your work will span complex actuarial projects including financial modeling, data analysis, and visualization. You will be expected to translate quantitative results into strategic recommendations that support business growth and operational excellence. In this leadership role, a strong understanding of individual retiree healthcare insurance—particularly Medicare and ACA plans—is essential.
Success in this role requires a blend of deep technical expertise, strategic vision, and strong communication skills to engage with internal stakeholders, lead a high-performing team, and align actuarial strategies with overall business goals.
The Responsibilities of the Head Actuary include:
Client-Focused Delivery
Communicate complex actuarial analyses clearly and effectively to internal stakeholders.
Prepare, analyze, and present quantitative results to support business decisions.
Build trust and credibility through expert insights and proactive recommendations.
Ensure all work meets Actuarial Standards of Practice (ASOPs) and TRANZACT’s quality standards.
Manage expectations and ensure smooth coordination with cross-functional teams, including Data Science, Finance, and Accounting.
Leadership & Team Management
Lead, develop, and mentor the Actuarial Team; assign responsibilities to meet organizational objectives efficiently.
Oversee the team’s deliverables to ensure high-quality, timely output aligned with business priorities.
Define a vision and strategic roadmap for the Actuarial Team in alignment with company goals. Technical Expertise & Innovation
Act as a subject matter expert in pricing individual retiree healthcare insurance, especially Medicare and ACA plans.
Monitor market trends and regulatory changes to identify new opportunities for actuarial innovation.
Contribute to the creation and refinement of tools, models, and approaches that support evolving business needs.
Professional Development
Promote a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages continuous learning and growth.
Stay current with industry developments and enhance your technical skills in line with emerging trends.
Provide training and development opportunities to junior team members.
Qualifications include:
10+ years of experience in the industry
Must have experience with retiree health care benefits and individual insurance.
Bachelor’s degree
FSA, MAAA
Experience successfully managing a team and multiple projects and producing quality deliverables on time
Executive leadership presence with polished and well developed oral and written communication skills
Excel, PowerBI, Tableau, Databricks, VBA, Dax software expertise a huge plus
Ability to both lead and coordinate; works across multiple teams
Team-oriented and collaborative
Strong interpersonal and team skills
Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical, creative thinking and problem-solving skills
Enjoy training and mentoring junior staff
