Over six months, you will focus on one flagship build, support recurring data work, and contribute light research. We prioritise depth over breadth: one tool that actually gets used beats four half-finished prototypes.
1. Flagship build — pick one (defined in week 1 with the team)
Target outcome: a working prototype, validated with at least one real user (a deal team member or portfolio CFO), with documented handover so it survives after the internship.
2. Recurring ESG data & automation work
3. Research & portfolio support
Data & Confidentiality
You will work with confidential portfolio data. All AI tooling must be used within Astorg's approved environment. Awareness of GDPR and basic data-security practice is expected; specifics will be covered during onboarding.
Diversity
Astorg is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome diverse profiles in terms of gender, background, and nationality, and actively encourage applications from candidates whose route into AI did not go through a traditional finance or business-school track.
This role is open to a broad profile, with a clear bias toward builders.

Job Description
AI & Automation Intern – Sustainability Team - Astorg (Paris) - start ASAP
Application Deadline: 28 June 2026
Department: ESG
Employment Type: Internship
Location: Paris
Reporting To: Partner, Head of Sustainability
Description
Astorg is one of Europe’s top private equity firms, with €23bn in assets under management and offices in Paris, London, New York, Milan, Frankfurt and Luxembourg. The firm deploys capital across Europe and the US within the healthcare, software, business services and industrials sectors. Since 2018, Astorg is considered as having a best-in-class approach on sustainability and responsible investment. In 2020, Astorg became a Carbon Neutral company and in 2021 Astorg announced that all its future funds will be Article 8 funds under the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (promoting environmental and social characteristics of their investments).
Since 2021, Astorg has set science-based targets to reduce its emissions and the ones of its portfolio (“SBT” initiative).
We are looking for an AI & Automation Intern to embed practical AI into the Sustainability Team's workflows and portfolio initiatives.
Since 2021, Astorg has set science-based targets to reduce its emissions and the ones of its portfolio (“SBT” initiative).
We are looking for an AI & Automation Intern to embed practical AI into the Sustainability Team's workflows and portfolio initiatives.
This role sits at the intersection of applied AI, data, and ESG — with a clear bias toward shipping working tools, not producing analysis. You will help structure sustainability data, automate workflows, and build AI-powered prototypes that improve decision-making across the firm and its portfolio companies.
We are explicitly not looking for a sustainability specialist. The Sustainability team will provide the domain context. We are looking for someone who can build.
- Start date: ASAP
- Duration: 6 months
- Location: Paris 16e, France
- Compensation: In line with market standards
Day-to-day responsibilities
Over six months, you will focus on one flagship build, support recurring data work, and contribute light research. We prioritise depth over breadth: one tool that actually gets used beats four half-finished prototypes.
1. Flagship build — pick one (defined in week 1 with the team)
• An internal "ESG copilot" that answers sustainability-related queries over Astorg's internal documents and portfolio data.
• An automated document-parsing tool that extracts structured ESG data from portfolio companies' policies, audits, and sustainability reports.
• A regulations reporting assistant that drafts, cross-checks, and chases the right data points across the portfolio.
Target outcome: a working prototype, validated with at least one real user (a deal team member or portfolio CFO), with documented handover so it survives after the internship.
2. Recurring ESG data & automation work
• Support collection, cleaning, and structuring of ESG data across portfolio companies (carbon emissions, KPIs, regulatory metrics).
• Contribute to dashboards and reporting (decarbonisation tracking, reporting readiness).
• Identify and ship small automations that remove friction from the Sustainability team's recurring tasks (Notion, Excel, Power Automate, n8n, or similar).
3. Research & portfolio support
• Conduct light research on AI applications in sustainability and private equity.
• Support portfolio companies on AI-driven ESG improvements when asked.
• Contribute to internal thought leadership on AI + sustainability.
What You'll Gain
What You'll Gain
• Hands-on experience deploying AI inside a top-tier European private equity firm.
• A real, named portfolio piece: a working tool used by investment or portfolio teams that you can point to on your CV.
• Exposure to sustainability strategy across multiple industries (healthcare, software, business services, industrials).
• High autonomy and direct interaction with senior stakeholders, including partners.
Ideal Candidate Profile
This role is open to a broad profile, with a clear bias toward builders.
Background
• Master's student in computer science, data science, AI, engineering, or a closely related field.
• Open to candidates from: Grandes Écoles d'ingénieurs (Polytechnique, Centrale, Mines, Télécom, ENSAE, etc.), universities (Paris-Saclay, Dauphine, Sorbonne, etc.), and specialised digital / IT schools (Epita, Epitech, 42, ESILV, ECE, ENSIIE, EPF, and equivalents).
• Prior project or internship experience involving Python, APIs, or LLM-based tools matters more than prior experience in finance. Curiosity about private equity and sustainability is enough — domain knowledge will be provided.
Technical skills
• Python: comfortable with pandas, calling APIs, and basic data pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with at least one LLM-based tool or agent framework (e.g. OpenAI / Anthropic / Mistral APIs, LangChain, LlamaIndex, n8n, Make, or similar) — even from a personal or school project.
• Excel (solid working level); SQL and a BI tool (Power BI / Tableau / Metabase) are a plus.
• Comfortable reading documentation and shipping a working prototype quickly.
Soft skills
• Prototype mindset: bias to test something small this week rather than design something perfect next month.
• Pragmatism: focus on tools that get used, not tools that impress.
• Communication: able to explain a technical output to a non-technical stakeholder in one paragraph.
• Ability to switch gears between projects and priorities.
Languages
• Fluency in English and French required. Other European languages are a plus.
