Job Description
BigBear.ai is seeking a Research Analyst Intern to support our engineering and product teams through technical research, market analysis, and data-driven insights. This internship is designed for college students interested in technology research, analytics, artificial intelligence, and emerging software trends.
The intern will work closely with senior technical leaders and cross-functional teams to research technologies, analyze industry trends, support product and engineering initiatives, and contribute to strategic recommendations. This role provides hands-on experience in research methodologies, technical analysis, data interpretation, and business intelligence within a fast-paced technology environment.
What you will do
• Conduct research on emerging technologies, AI/ML trends, software platforms, and industry best practices
• Assist in gathering, organizing, and analyzing technical and business data from multiple sources
• Support market research efforts, competitive analysis, and product benchmarking activities
• Help prepare research summaries, presentations, reports, and technical documentation for leadership and project teams
• Collaborate with engineers, developers, and product teams to better understand technical solutions and customer requirements
• Assist with identifying opportunities for process improvement, automation, and innovation
• Analyze datasets and trends to help support strategic and operational decision-making
• Participate in Agile team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project discussions
• Support proof-of-concept and R&D initiatives through research and documentation
• Track and summarize developments in AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, software engineering, and related technology areas
• Maintain organized research records, references, and supporting documentation
• Present findings and recommendations to team members and stakeholders as needed
What you need to have
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in: Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, or a related technical or analytical field
• Must have completed at least 2 years of coursework (rising Junior or Senior preferred)
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred
• Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to synthesize information and communicate findings clearly
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Basic understanding of technology concepts related to software development, AI/ML, cloud computing, or data analytics
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently in a collaborative environment
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
What we'd like you to have
• Experience conducting academic, technical, or market research projects
• Familiarity with data visualization or analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Excel analytics features
• Exposure to AI/ML concepts, cloud technologies, or software development lifecycles
• Experience using collaboration and project management tools such as Jira, Confluence, or GitHub
• Basic understanding of Agile methodologies
• Prior internship, leadership, research assistant, or project experience
• Experience creating presentations, reports, or executive summaries for technical or non-technical audiences
• Interest in emerging technologies, defense technology, or decision intelligence platforms
