Your role


The Newfoundland Morning Show is looking for a Reporter / Editor based in Gander who will bring a vibrant and curious voice to the program. You will be live from various locations in the mornings, engaging the guests and taking the audience along for the ride. Occasionally you will gather video and interviews with your iPhone for CBC video platforms. When not going live you will create sound rich tape for broadcast working in conjunction with the morning show team.


The successful candidate will join a team based in both Gander and Corner Brook. The show informs, entertains and serves the people of central, western and the northern peninsula areas of the island. Your job is to connect with the audience by reaching underrepresented communities.

Key tasks:
● Pitch, coordinate and present live cut-ins daily.
● Conduct engaging in the moment interviews covering a wide range of
informative and entertaining content.
● Gather video content to compliment your work that will air on digital
platforms.
● Produce sound rich short doc style content for the morning show.
● Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold.
● Write accurate and compelling scripts.
● Engage with the community with an emphasis on young and diverse
audiences.

● Collaborate with colleagues to develop and break stories, plan features and
coordinate long-term coverage.


We are looking for a candidate with the following:
● Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong, creative story ideas.
● Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom
deadline pressure.
● A passion for live radio both from the field and in-studio.
● Great interview skills resulting from a curiosity about the people of
Newfoundland and Labrador.
● Excellent audio gathering and editing skills.
● Knowledge of all CBC platforms - digital, current affairs, radio news and
broadcast.
● Experience in determining potential legal and journalistic issues and ability
to act on them.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong team player.
● Ability to generate original, enterprise journalism.
● University degree or equivalent with a minimum of three years relevant
experience preferred.
● Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
● Possession of a valid driver’s license as well as a driving record that meets
the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company.
● Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes and
weekends.
