Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal/Sr. Principal Network Communications (level 3 or 4) to join our diverse team of professionals located in Sigonella Airbase, Italy.

This position will be a long-term expatriate opportunity. This position will include Flight Arrangement(s), Household Good Shipment, HOLA, COLA and other incentives for working this assignment overseas.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Maintains smooth operation of local area, world wide and virtual private networks (VPN).
  • Plans, evaluates, and coordinates installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication network.
  • Maintains technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
  • May propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings.
  • Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions.
  • Provides regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house systems.
  • May coordinate third-party maintenance for network equipment. May design network or portion of network that include selection of hardware and software packages.
  • Ensures that the LAN/WAN is capable of providing required services by supporting the network infrastructure through the use of troubleshooting and problem resolution in a production environment.
  • Provides daily operational support for LAN/WAN networks, including firewalls.
  • Plans, installs and supports hardware and software upgrades; resolves technical issues associated with network and routing protocols at all levels of the OSI model through the use of diagnostics and network administration tools such as Hewlett Packard (HP) OpenView, Cisco Works and Tivoli.
  • Responsible for maintaining LAN – WAN barrier systems to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Uses diagnostic utilities to identify and isolate problems encountered on different mediums and network protocols, gather latency statistics and find specific network bottlenecks, evaluate problems and implement fix actions through device reconfiguration or replacement depending on the circumstances.
  • Provide On-the-Job Training and platform instruction to NATO AGS customer when required.

This role may be filled as a level 3 or level 4 based on the qualifications outlined below.

Basic Qualifications Level 3:

  • Must have a High School diploma or equivalent and at least 9 years of relevant Network Communications/Administration experience; or an Associates Degree and at least 7 years of relevant Network Communications/Administration experience; or a Bachelors in Science and at least 5 years of Network Communications/Administration experience; or a Masters and at least 3 years of relevant Network Communications/Administration experience; or a Ph.D. with some relevant Network Communications/Administration experience
  • Network experience maintaining Cisco switches and routers
  • Ability to troubleshoot LAN/WAN problems
  • Knowledge of general security methodologies such as firewalls, IDS/IPS and access control lists
  • Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pound
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Active US Top Secret U.S. Government Clearance with ability to obtain NATO Cosmic Top Secret Clearance
  • Must be willing/able to work a flexible work schedule that may include extended shifts, holidays, and weekends and support on call status for 24 hours-a-day, 7 days- a-week, and 365 days a year ​

  • Must have a High School diploma or equivalent and at least 12 years of relevant Network Communications/Administration experience; or an Associates Degree and at least 10 years of relevant Network Communications/Administration experience; or a Bachelors in Science and at least 8 years of Network Communications/Administration experience; or a Masters and at least 6 years of relevant Network Communications/Administration experience; or a Ph.D. with at least 4 years of relevant Network Communications/Administration experience.
  • Network experience maintaining Cisco switches and routers
  • Ability to troubleshoot LAN/WAN problems
  • Knowledge of general security methodologies such as firewalls, IDS/IPS and access control lists
  • Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pound
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current CCNA preferred
  • Security+ desired
  • Experience with NATO

Primary Level Salary Range: $94,200.00 - $141,200.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $117,500.00 - $176,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
