Team Impact
The Unit Secretary is responsible and accountable to assist in the overall functioning of the unit in response to provider/customer needs encompassing communicative, receptionist, computer and secretarial services. These functions include, but are not limited to, assisting with medical records, admissions, transfers, discharge/death, transcribing selected physician orders, supplies & equipment, and unit records.

Responsibilities
Communication:
Establish and maintain effective interpersonal skills within the care delivery team
Answer phone/intercom in a polite, friendly, respectful, manner and relay messages to appropriate resources in a timely helpful manner
Use appropriate communication and negotiation skills in interactions with others
Addresses conflicts as soon as possible with immediately involved parties; and escalating as necessary
Provide general support for team responsibilities encompassing maintenance of a safe environment, problem identification, conflict, resolution skills, cooperation, commitment, and appropriate utilization of resources
Demonstrate responsibility and dependability by adhering to assigned work schedule
Clerical Support:
Utilize Computer Information System according to established standard for position and unit
Assist with Order Entry
Perform clerical duties in support of the admission/discharge/transfer/death process
Keeps medical record in order
Transcribe selected physician orders encompassing tests, treatments, consults, medications, permits
Prepares related requisitions and notify appropriate departments and agencies
Maintain and keeps current files, and assist with the management of bulletin communication boards
Order supplies/equipment for service
Arrange for repair and replacement of facilities and equipment as needed and keep related records
Arrange for escort services of patients, specimens, supplies, equipment, and other items between unit and other areas of the hospital
Professional Growth:
Maintain knowledge and skills through self-development and participation in unit and department in-services and staff meetings on a regular basis
Identify learning needs through self/peer/Director evaluation and pursue education/support to meet identified needs
Participate in annual mandated programs
Maintain competencies both hospital-wide and unit specific
Qualifications/Experience
Education/Accredited Programs
Minimum of high school diploma or GED required
Successful completion of an AAS in health administration, business, finance, or related field preferred
Experience
1 year of healthcare office experience preferred
Experience providing patient care at any level highly preferred
Foundational knowledge of medical terminology preferred
Skills/Abilities
Ability to prioritize effectively
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with other nursing personnel, patients, physicians, and the public
Ability to stay highly organized in a fast-paced work environment
Basic math skills required
Basic computer literacy skills required
Salary Range
The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $17.25 to $24.00 per hour. Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.
