Job Description
Underwriter Manager, Casualty Singapore You will represent the Company’s brand in the market, contribute to developing the Company in Asia and preserve the Company’s excellent reputation as a business partner and employer
Responsible for underwriting a profitable book of Casualty business in line with AXA XL and AXA Group strategy and standards
This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime
What you’ll be DOING What will your essential responsibilities include
Budget/Strategy Contributes to the direction of the portfolio with the aim to achieve the business plan targets and other goals
A particular attention will be kept on targeted loss ratios as well as other key metrics while providing input relevant to proactive cycle management
Business Focus Proactive in marketing Company’s appetite and presence
Pursue new business opportunities; implement leading edge products and solutions
Take part in marketing initiatives with other departments, proactively manages cross selling opportunities Awareness to financial results and performance metrics and escalate issues as required to Regional Product Leader
Be aware of periodic actuarial model changes, understanding where the assumptions are driven from and impact on rating for your class of business
Continuous monitoring for model consistency, escalating for further review where necessary
Leadership and Management Lead the AXA XL Casualty Singapore business
Provide training to the other AXA XL Casualty underwriters
Support and empower their development
Ensure regular internal reporting on important market, client and product related developments
Be an active member of the Singapore Branch Management team Be a role model not only to the Casualty team, but any other employee Distribution Manage insured and producer relationships across the territory in collaboration with the Client and Country Management colleagues
In addition to existing distribution channels, develop own network of contacts and ensure all relevant client relationships (cedants, brokers, clients) are maintained
Active representation of AXA during roadshows, events, brokers functions Actively collaborates with all the AXA entities in the region Promote and actively drive collaboration and cross-sell Regulatory Follow relevant procedures and guidelines and ensure compliance with Global and Regional Underwriting Guidelines and appropriate local requirements as well as with other external legal and regulatory requirements
Reporting / Aggregate Management Business reporting according to requirements (portfolio and risk analysis, benchmarking information)
Proactively communicate market intelligence
Guidelines Ascertain top quality and best practice underwriting according to Company’s standards and guidelines Peer Review Proactively comply with the underwriting reviews
Claims Prompt handover to claims team of all claims advised, supporting and providing input on settlement of claims, as required
Be aware of the guidelines in place and reporting protocols to follow
Reinsurance Identify and escalate potential need for RI
Group and Regional Strategic Initiatives Assist and help as required in the Regional Strategic Initiatives
Coordination and synergy work with AXA GI across the region You will report directly to the Head of Property & Casualty, Asia
What you will BRING We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills: Experience: Casualty re/insurance technical underwriting background and people management experience Understanding of Asia (re) insurance market; Singapore domestic market is a plus The role requires individuals of degree certification, fully/part ACII qualified or possess relevant insurance qualifications International Programs deployment and management Advanced decision making and negotiation skills Presentation and communication ability Experience mentoring underwriting staff of various experience levels Team player Up to date appreciation of the technical requirements of the role Proven ability in identifying and analysing problems, creating good solutions, deploying sound decision making skills
Proven track record of knowing what it takes to provide a consistently first class customer service internally and/or externally Ability to build effective working relationships (internally/externally), establishing credibility amongst a wide and demanding client group Demonstrable evidence of interpreting & manipulating data clearly and accurately with the ability to extract & clearly articulate key points Demonstrates communication skills, articulate presenter to internal/external audiences, exercising appropriate discretion in dealing with people from all levels of the Company Attention to detail and a meticulous eye for identifying inconsistencies or inaccuracies in data entry or data outputs Able to organise self (and others if applicable) including effective scheduling, prioritisation and time management skills, completing tasks to tight deadlines
Demonstrates a ‘can do’ attitude Comfortable taking ownership for own work, identifying the need for action (using initiative) whilst working effectively within a team
Displays a resilient and adaptable style, track record of remaining calm in demanding circumstances, adjusting comfortably to changing conditions / priorities The role would suit highly driven self-starters, with a desire to challenge and deliver
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; specifically Excel (including ability to manage if not write macros), Outlook, Word, Powerpoint Desirable Knowledge and Skill: Experience in a Financial Services environment First class report writing skills, ability to develop and present ideas and reasoned arguments clearly and concisely to various audiences Who WE are AXA XL, the P&C and specialty risk division of AXA, is known for solving complex risks
