The Mine Counter Measures Deck Operations and Mine Sweeping Systems Specialist (MCM DECK OPS) provides technical expertise, operational oversight, and maintenance support for Navy minesweeping systems, specialized deck equipment, and mission support platforms aboard warships and military auxiliary vessels assigned to mine countermeasure operations. This position serves as a principal subject matter expert responsible for supporting mission readiness, operational effectiveness, maintenance planning, and lifecycle sustainment activities associated with Navy minesweeping platforms and equipment.
The MCM Deck Ops Specialist provides guidance and support to shipboard personnel, maintenance organizations, and government representatives regarding minesweeping operations, specialized equipment maintenance, and hull preservation requirements unique to Navy mine countermeasure vessels.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and operational support for Navy minesweeping systems, mission equipment, and associated deck gear.
- Support planning, execution, and oversight of maintenance activities involving minesweeping equipment and specialized mission systems.
- Serve as subject matter expert for minesweeping operations, maintenance procedures, and equipment readiness requirements.
- Provide technical guidance regarding operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of minesweeping systems and associated support equipment currently employed by the U.S. Navy.
- Support readiness assessments, maintenance evaluations, operational reviews, and casualty response activities for mine countermeasure platforms.
- Coordinate with ship’s force personnel, maintenance activities, waterfront organizations, and government representatives to resolve technical and operational issues.
- Monitor and evaluate equipment performance, maintenance trends, and readiness metrics to identify opportunities for process improvements and increased mission effectiveness.
- Provide expertise regarding specialized maintenance and lifecycle sustainment requirements associated with hull types utilized on Navy minesweeping units.
- Ensure compliance with Navy operational procedures, maintenance standards, engineering requirements, and safety policies.
- Prepare technical assessments, readiness evaluations, maintenance reports, and operational status updates for leadership review.
- Support modernization initiatives, lifecycle sustainment planning, and fleet readiness programs related to mine countermeasure operations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of twenty (20) years of operational experience aboard warships or military auxiliary vessels whose primary mission areas include minesweeping operations.
- Direct operational and maintenance experience within the last five (5) years involving Navy minesweeping systems, equipment, and associated deck gear currently employed by the U.S. Navy.
- Thorough knowledge of the specialized maintenance requirements associated with hull types employed on Navy minesweeping units.
- Thorough knowledge of lifecycle sustainment practices and preservation requirements for Navy mine countermeasure platforms.
- Extensive understanding of Navy minesweeping operations, mission systems integration, maintenance procedures, and operational readiness requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and technical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively interface with senior military leadership, civilian personnel, maintenance organizations, and technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting Navy fleet readiness programs, mine countermeasure modernization efforts, or lifecycle sustainment initiatives.
- Experience supporting shipyard maintenance, waterfront operations, or specialized hull preservation programs.
- Familiarity with Navy maintenance databases, readiness reporting systems, and technical documentation processes.
- Experience supporting integrated maintenance teams, readiness assist teams, or technical assessment organizations.
- Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Engineering, Engineering Technology, Maritime Operations, or a related technical field.
Work Environment
- Work may be performed in office environments, shipboard locations, waterfront operations areas, maintenance facilities, or shipyards.
- Position may require travel to fleet concentration areas, operational commands, maintenance facilities, and shipboard locations in support of inspections, maintenance activities, and operational readiness efforts.
Security Clearance
- Active DoD security clearance (Secret or higher) required.
