Operational Scientist, Upstream Mammalian Manufacturing
Job Description
Our purpose is to bring hope to life by enabling life-changing therapies for patients around the globe, creating a healthier and happier tomorrow. Our mission is to work side by side with our customers in order to improve patients’ lives by bringing new biopharmaceuticals to market.
Join AGC Biologics
At AGC Biologics, advanced science becomes real therapies for patients around the world. Behind every biologic medicine delivered to patients is a team ensuring that the production process runs smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
As an Operational Scientist – Upstream, you will play a key role in supporting biological processes in our brand-new GMP manufacturing facility. Working closely with technicians and production leaders, you will help ensure that complex upstream operations run according to plan, enabling the reliable manufacturing of advanced medicines.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining scientific insight with hands-on production support in a dynamic, collaborative manufacturing environment.
Where science meets manufacturing
In this role, you will support the daily execution of upstream processes and help ensure that production activities run smoothly across projects.
You will work side by side with technicians, supervisors, and operational stakeholders to coordinate preparations, ensure production readiness, and support troubleshooting when needed. Your scientific understanding will allow you to translate process knowledge into practical guidance for the production floor.
A typical week involves coordinating production activities, participating in daily operational meetings, supporting short-term planning, and helping ensure that each project progresses according to schedule and quality standards.
You will also play an important role in training technicians in upstream operations, strengthening the team’s capabilities while ensuring consistent and compliant manufacturing.
Because production schedules vary depending on process needs, the role requires flexibility and an on-site presence. Occasionally, weekend work may be required to support critical manufacturing activities.
This position operates on a fixed day shift schedule (5:2), with occasional overtime during peak production periods.
A collaborative manufacturing environment
You will join an upstream team characterized by knowledge sharing, flexibility, and a strong sense of ownership. Teams collaborate closely across production, quality, and support functions to ensure biologics manufacturing runs reliably.
In this environment, scientists and technicians work closely together, combining scientific understanding with operational execution. Your contribution will directly support production success while helping strengthen the technical capabilities of the team.
Together with supervisors and colleagues across the organization, you will help ensure that AGC Biologics continues delivering high-quality biologics manufacturing for global clients.
What will help you succeed
We are looking for someone who enjoys working close to manufacturing while applying scientific expertise to real production challenges.
You likely bring:
A Master’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field
Experience working in a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical production environment
A solid understanding of upstream processes
Strong collaboration and communication skills in English
A structured and analytical approach to problem-solving
Experience working in LEAN-oriented environments or dynamic production settings will be an advantage.
Most importantly, you are motivated, collaborative, and comfortable taking responsibility in a dynamic manufacturing environment where teamwork, knowledge sharing, and flexibility are valued.
Why build your career at AGC Biologics
At AGC Biologics, you become part of a global organization dedicated to helping bring innovative biologics to patients faster.
Here you will experience:
A purpose-driven workplace where your work contributes to therapies reaching patients worldwide
Close collaboration between science and manufacturing
Opportunities to develop technical and operational expertise in biologics production
An international environment with strong knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
