Maintenance Technician I (Site Support)
The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for performing mechanical repair, installation, inspection, preventative and corrective maintenance of light vehicles, medium trucks and mining production equipment including pickup trucks, cars, mobile cranes, forklifts, haul trucks, dozers, shovels, graders, drills, and loaders.
The technician in this classification performs routine inspection, maintenance and replacement of component and parts, to provide continuous operation of vehicles and production equipment.
Essential Duties
- Perform work using hand/power tools, test equipment and other special tools and instrumentation typical to mobile and heavy equipment maintenance.
- Carry out preventative maintenance tasks as per developed work instructions to ensure safe and reliable operation of light and heavy vehicle.
- Assist in testing, adjusting, troubleshooting and repair of faulty equipment.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping throughout workshops to ensure a safe work environment and effectively manage risks.
- Maximize asset value through effective utilization, care and security of maintenance equipment and tools with due consideration of safety and environmental issues.
- Complete all administrative processing requirements associated with maintenance duties, such as requisitioning of parts and materials, processing of maintenance orders, and recording of labor time using SAP system.
Training & Experience
Knowledge:
- Minimum Secondary School Diploma (MULO, LTS) or equivalent level of competencies, demonstrated through a Prior Learning Knowledge Assessment.
- Preferable Technical diploma (NATIN or AMTO).
- A trade certification from a recognized training institution is desirable.
- Hold a National Driver License
- Hold a Driver Permit to operate Light Vehicles
- Complete Mobile Operation Full Operation Training on Service Truck
- Complete Basic Rigging, Signaling and Overhead Crane Training
- Complete Hand Tools and Safety Training
- Complete Mechanical Measuring Tools Training
- Complete Computer Application Training (MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, etc.)
- Complete the Technician Development Program Level 1
Experience:
- The candidate should have at least 2 years of relevant experience as Maintenance Technician on mobile equipment or in heavy equipment industry.
Skills and Abilities:
- Skills and abilities of a Trades Assistant.
- Ability to control and report hydrocarbon spillage.
- Ability to perform daily safety checks in the work area.
- Ability to complete a SLAM and assist in the creation of a JHA.
- Ability to operate medium size mobile equipment.
- Ability to use overhead cranes and other lifting devices.
- Ability to perform rigging & signaling activities.
- Ability to use shop tools and equipment
