The Associate Director, Operations for the Office of Health Sciences (OHS), serves as a principal advisor and senior consultant to the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO)/SAVP, Health Sciences, shaping strategic direction. This position serves as a key component of the administrative operations of the OHS. This is a highly visible and high impact position that helps ensure the financial and strategic direction of programs in the OHS, College of Medicine, or Health System under the leadership of the CCO or other senior executives.
The Associate Director will serve as a member of the CCO’s leadership team. This role executes key strategic priorities and initiatives by exploring, identifying and evaluating comprehensive information and data to provide guidance, advice and assistance on a range of issues. This individual will oversee, lead, and execute special projects and daily operations focused on advancing goals and objectives of many of the OHS departments that fall under the CCO’s purview or any other enterprise-wide priorities and projects to which they are asked to lead or implement. This work could include, but not be limited to, providing oversight of senior leadership meetings and forums; identifying areas of strategic concern for discussion by leadership; following up on necessary matters to facilitate completion; serving as a central administrative resource and liaison to Medical Center, campus and other external stakeholders; creating agendas and reviewing minutes for meetings.
Position Summary
- Oversees, coordinates execution, and leads implementation and change management efforts of strategic initiatives, partnering with appropriate leaders and staff to achieve the strategic goals of the Wexner Medical Center.
- Advises the CCO and members of the CCO’s leadership team in overall communications and operations strategy; develops and implements systems to organize, communicate, and manage key priorities and projects; provides oversight of senior leadership meetings and forums, creates agendas, identifying areas of strategic concern for discussion by leadership, follows up on necessary matters to facilitate completion; serves as a central administrative contact and liaison to other leaders on campus, within the Medical Center and other stakeholders in the community.
- Provides counsel and advice to the CCO and other senior administration and identifies operations issues and solutions; handles complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, mixing longer term projects with the urgency of immediate demands; assesses inquiries and concerns directed to the CCO’s office, determining course of action in alignment with the OSU Wexner Medical Center's (OSUWMC) initiatives and objectives, delegating to the appropriate person to manage.
- Represents the CCO externally, at executive meetings and serves on various committees.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Advanced degree in relevant field may be required. 8 years of relevant experience required. 12 or more years of relevant experience preferred.

Additional Desired Qualifications
Advanced degree in business administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred; 8 years of responsible experience in business/administration operations required, preferably in an academic medical environment; excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interacting with diverse internal and external constituents (including donors, community leaders, etc.) preferred; and demonstrated ability to interact and influence at the most senior levels of an organization. Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, organizational and facilitation skills. Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete projects. Ability to learn new systems software. Independent and self-motivated. Experience leading a team.
