Job vacancies: In-House Lawyer
As an In-House Lawyer, you will provide high-quality, pragmatic and solutions-oriented legal support to the SBUs/BUs of the Bank and, where applicable, to entities within MCB Group. You will act as a business partner to stakeholders, supporting decision-making while ensuring that legal and regulatory risks are appropriately managed.
In this role you will,
- Provide legal advice on a broad range of matters affecting the business and activities of MCB and MCB Group, ensuring that such advice is clear, practical and implementation-focused;
- Support transactional, advisory and strategic initiatives across the organisation, adapting to the legal needs of different business lines;
- Draft, review and negotiate contracts and a wide variety of legal documents involving MCB and MCB Group entities;
- Advise on the Bank’s products, services and commercial offerings, including their legal and regulatory implications;
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and contribute to cross-functional teams to achieve effective and commercially sound outcomes;
- Identify, assess and escalate legal and regulatory risks arising in the course of business, and support the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures;
- Instruct, manage and liaise with local and international external counsel, ensuring efficient use of panel firms and appropriate control of legal spend;
- Contribute to the development, standardisation and enhancement of legal frameworks, documentation and best practices within the Legal SBU.

We are looking for a candidate who has a minimum of:
- A Law degree or an LLM with specialization in banking and finance, financial/corporate law or private equity; and
- 6 years of working experience in the banking/financial services/legal sector including banking and finance department of law firms or legal departments of blue chips companies in Mauritius or abroad.
You will also be required to demonstrate:
- Strong ability to handle complex legal matters, including cross-border issues, and to provide pragmatic, commercially sound solutions;
- Broad exposure to banking, financial services and/or general corporate and commercial legal work;
- Sound knowledge of Mauritian laws and familiarity with international best practices;
- Agility to adapt to evolving legal, regulatory and business environments;
- A solution-driven mindset with strong commercial awareness;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams;
- Strong drafting, analytical and communication skills, as well as proficiency in relevant IT tools.
