HME Asset Health Specialist (OC) – Africa & Middle East
Job Description
Position Description
The Barrick Africa & Middle East Team are seeking to recruit a HME Asset Health Specialist (OC). You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets and with our teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner towards achieving targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures.
The HME Asset Health Specialist is the senior regional specialist responsible for establishing and driving Barrick's AME Open Cut HME reliability and asset health function. The role leads the transition from time-based, reactive maintenance to a standardized, condition-based, predictive model.
A key responsibility is ensuring site reliability teams maximize the current SAP environment while leading the evaluation of any approved complementary asset health and predictive reliability platform that addresses a structural gap SAP was not designed to fill - consolidating all condition data sources into a single OEM-agnostic asset view, applying a rules-based decision engine to automatically identify component deterioration, and integrating directly with SAP as maintenance notifications.
This role will work in close partnership with the HME Systems Specialist and HME Planning Specialist, and the role owns failure mode analysis, prioritized action planning, and regional reliability capability building.
Responsibilities
Lead the design and implementation of the AME Open Cut HME reliability function, including condition-based maintenance strategies, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and prioritization of critical assets.
Own and drive the regional asset health programme, integrating all condition data sources - oil analysis, OEM telematics, field inspections, vibration analysis, thermography, and undercarriage data - into SAP for asset health tracking and action management.
Ensure site reliability teams are maximizing SAP's current asset health capabilities, including Phase Model functionality, maintenance history capture, failure coding discipline, and component life counter accuracy.
Lead the regional review and evaluation of any approved complementary asset health and predictive reliability platform in conjunction with the regional Underground and Engineering support teams - specifically a platform that consolidates all condition data into a single OEM-agnostic asset view, applies a rules-based decision engine to identify deteriorating components and predict failures, and integrates directly with SAP as maintenance notifications - noting that specific system selection remains subject to Barrick approval.
Develop and deliver advanced asset health analytics including trend analysis, breakdown avoidance tracking, and financial quantification of avoided failures, converting insights into prioritized, actionable work packages for site teams.
Drive the shift from time-based to condition-based maintenance by linking predictive data to maintenance interventions and ensuring timely site execution.
Develop and maintain strong technical relationships with all OEM suppliers, including Chinese OEM manufacturers as Barrick expands engagement with these partners, leveraging Mandarin language capability where available to access condition data, telematics integration, and equipment health standards.
Influence and hold site maintenance and reliability teams accountable for reliability standards, SAP asset health data quality, failure code discipline, and reduction of repeat failures through regular site engagement and performance reviews.
Develop and deliver regional reliability training programmes, transferring skills to site teams to build progressive self-sufficiency while maintaining regional consistency.
Collaborate with the HME Systems Specialist to ensure condition monitoring data and OEM telematics are correctly integrated into SAP and any approved complementary platforms, and with the HME Planning Specialist to ensure reliability insights feed into long-term plans and budgets.
Work collaboratively with the regional Underground and Engineering support teams to ensure reliability standards and asset health processes are aligned across the broader AME organization.
Contribute to Pre-Condition Report (PCR) quality, warranty processes, and structural repair standards, and monitor reliability KPIs across AME Open Cut sites to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
Ensure all reliability activities comply with Barrick standards, safety requirements, and local regulations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Professional certification in reliability engineering or asset management (e.g. Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP), Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE)) strongly preferred.
Professional registration with a relevant engineering body will be beneficial.
Experience and Requirements
Minimum 8-10 years in reliability engineering or asset health management in large-scale Open Cut mining, with a strong HME focus across multiple sites.
Proven experience implementing reliability standards, defect elimination programmes, condition-based maintenance, and driving SAP utilization for asset health tracking and failure analysis.
Demonstrated experience with leading complementary asset health and predictive maintenance platforms that complement SAP - including OEM-agnostic condition data consolidation, rules-based failure identification, and SAP-integrated notification workflows - and the ability to evaluate and lead adoption of such systems.
Experience working with Chinese OEM mining equipment highly desirable; demonstrated ability to engage technically with Chinese equipment manufacturers, with Mandarin language capability a significant advantage.
Demonstrated ability to influence and hold site reliability teams accountable across multiple locations without direct line authority.
Experience delivering reliability training and building site capability.
