Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY  

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Tennis Instructor to join our team at the South Shore YMCA. As a Tennis Instructor, you will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction to players of all ages and skill levels. Your role will involve planning and executing effective training sessions, fostering a positive learning environment, and helping players achieve their individual goals. The instructor is expected to effectively and safely supervise the tennis court area in accordance with the following policies established by the South Shore YMCA, while also providing a high level of member service.   

 

CORE EXPECTATIONS:  

  1. PROGRAM EXECUTION  

Supervise all tennis activities while on duty and assist with set up or break down of tennis clinic and/or lesson transitions. Tennis Instructors must supervise by circulating along and around the courts, actively engaging with players to offer advice, make corrections, and ensure that each player is following safety guidelines. Tennis Instructors will dress and act professionally and work closely with other instructors ensuring the proper lesson plans are followed out. Instructors will also be prepared, and if required, run clinics on their own. Instructors are to respond to incidents appropriately and professionally. Record all incidents/accidents immediately after the situation has been resolved, reports emergency immediately to supervisor on duty. Follow and enforce tennis rules on and off duty.  Candidates must be available to work evenings and weekends, as many of our clinics, lessons, and programs are scheduled during those times. Applicants should be prepared for a flexible schedule based on program needs. 

  1. STAFF ENGAGEMENT AND TEAMWORK  

Work with fellow YMCA staff members and treat them with respect. Every tennis instructor is responsible for reviewing all guidelines for emergency procedures to ensure a prompt and appropriate response to any incident. Perform other duties needed as delegated by the supervisor on duty or Tennis Director. Attend all staff meetings and complete skill trainings.  

  1. MEMBER ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT  

Enforce all tennis rules in a consistent, fair, and firm manner. Interact with members in a friendly, engaging, and professional manner. Educate members about all policies and procedures of the YMCA and the Tennis Department when needed. Be familiar with all information and answer questions about programs, schedules, and policies or direct people to Tennis Directors. Ensure that the South Shore YMCA Child Protection Policies are fulfilled.      

  1. FACILITY MANAGEMENT  

Maintain a clean and organized tennis environment. Record and report any faulty equipment and/or lapse in maintenance to the supervisor on duty.  

  1. VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT  

Support volunteers and their daily functions.  

  1. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT  

Assists in YMCA fund-raising activities/events and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations to strengthen support and build community.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Current Certifications:  

  • Current PTR, PPR or USPTA Certification   

  •  Child Abuse Prevention   

  • OSHA/Emergency procedures   

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.  

  • Previous tennis instructor experience preferred.   

   

PHYSICAL DEMANDS  

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, run, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
