Job Description

Job Description:

We believe in bold ideas, diverse perspectives, and the drive to transform knowledge into impact. Here, your curiosity fuels progress, your voice shapes innovation, and your ambition helps redefine what’s possible within science and learning. We are a culture that obsesses over impact, challenges, and drives what’s next to power infinite possibilities for our customers, colleagues and society at large.

About the Role:

Deputy Editor, Electronics Engineering & Digital Hardware

Advanced Science — Wiley

Location: Beijing or Shanghai, China

About the Role

We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious Deputy Editor to join our team at Advanced Science — Wiley’s flagship open-access journal. In this role, you will help shape the future of cutting-edge research in electronics, sensors, and digital hardware, while driving the strategic growth and visibility of the journal. You will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and collaborate across departments to uphold the highest standards of scientific publishing.

This is a rare opportunity to sit at the intersection of science and publishing — attending conferences, building relationships with leading researchers, and making meaningful editorial decisions that advance the field.

What You’ll Do

  • Strategically develop one or more journals in partnership with the Editor-in-Chief, driving growth from both scientific and publishing perspectives within the broader physical sciences portfolio.
  • Build and maintain a strong network of researchers, serving as the primary point of contact for authors, peer reviewers, and editorial board members.
  • Drive content acquisition and submission growth by leveraging your subject-matter expertise, industry knowledge, and desk research skills.
  • Represent Wiley and the physical sciences portfolio at international conferences and through in-person and virtual outreach at universities and research institutes.
  • Manage the peer review process end-to-end, including editorial evaluation and manuscript decision-making for one or more journals.
  • Champion best practices and the highest ethical standards in open-access publishing.

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • PhD in materials science, materials engineering, electronic engineering, or a related field, with a strong research background and up-to-date knowledge of recent developments in electronics, sensors, and digital hardware.
  • 2+ years of post-PhD experience — in postdoctoral research, industry, academia, publishing, or an international setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across teams and achieve results through personal initiative and professional influence.
  • Confidence to represent a journal portfolio at conferences and in outreach settings.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in publishing, editorial work, or science communication.
  • Familiarity with Open Access workflows and Open Research practices.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for science communication and advocacy for innovation in research publishing.

To apply, please attach your CV or resume to your application, or seeking for direct connection at [email protected] .
