At Rayonier, we don’t just manage forests; we optimize their lifecycle. As a Timberlands Forester III, you will be a key driver in the management of a Timberlands Unit. You will assist the Senior Timberlands Forester in all activities associated with the unit, ensuring our harvest activities meet customer commitments while navigating current field conditions. From reforestation to final harvest, you are the technical lead ensuring our resource returns maximum value.
How You Will Contribute
We are looking for a high-performing Timberlands Forester III with developed multitasking and organizational skills. In this role, you will be:
A Technical Silviculturalist: You will prepare silvicultural plans for reforestation, thinning, herbicide use, animal control, fertilization, and slash management.
An Operational Planner: You will support the development of 1-year and 5-year harvest plans to meet target volume production while maintaining balanced logging configurations.
A Financial Steward: You will assist in the preparation of annual operating budgets; provide support for financial and volume projections, and track performance compared to objectives.
A Market-Driven Executor: You will implement tactical marketing plans and refine harvest activities to meet customer commitments and optimize for current conditions.
A Contract Administrator: You will appraise, negotiate, and administer contracts, ensuring log sorting, quality, and delivery targets are met while reviewing invoices for payment.
A Collaborative Leader: You will lead project teams and provide technical training, coaching, and mentoring to help employees grow.
A Land & Safety Steward: You will assist in property management strategies—including parcel selection, appraisals, and recreational use programs—while ensuring full compliance with forest stewardship principles and BMPs.
What You Bring to the Team
Education: Bachelor’s degree in forestry required; Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of forestry experience, including at least three (3) years of timber harvest knowledge and contractor supervision.
Technical Expertise: Intermediate proficiency in MS Word and Excel, Global Positioning System (GPS) applications/devices, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Professional Skills: Developed understanding of key business drivers and the ability to lead project teams in an efficient manner.
Industry Engagement: Willingness to participate in professional organizations and represent the company in occasional research studies and surveys.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
This role is physically demanding and requires a mix of office work and significant field time. Key physical activities include:
Requires working alone outdoors in adverse weather and ground conditions.
Ability to tolerate woods pests (ticks, snakes, etc.)
Driving long distances on rough gravel roads is common.
Lifting (up to 50 lbs.), climbing walking long distances through sometimes very steep and brushy terrain.
