Job Description

About Tussell

Tussell is the trusted source of insight into UK government contracts, a market worth over £270Bn in 2025. In a climate of almost unprecedented government spending, our market intelligence software helps companies to win more public contracts by making better commercial decisions. Our data is so reliable that even the government relies on it to track its own procurement.

For a small company, we get a lot of media coverage. Since 2018 our data has been mentioned in the press over 1,900 times, underlining both the media interest in taxpayer-funded government contracts and our established position as the market’s reference data source.

We strive to be a great business, but what we do also has a wider impact: the enhanced transparency that Tussell fosters helps to make public procurement more efficient and competitive, which ultimately improves value for money in public services.

Tussell has an entrepreneurial culture and is focused on growing sustainably through customer sales, not by raising successive rounds of VC funding. The team is founder-led and consists of 36 employees with an median age of 28, so it’s a dynamic environment where you will know everybody’s name. Collaboration and teamwork are essential. We have a consistent track record of hiring energetic people early in their careers, developing home-grown talent and rewarding success.

Job Description

We’re hiring a Data Researcher to help turn Tussell’s public procurement data into accurate, commercially useful dashboards, reports and insights. You’ll work with tools such as Tableau, Power BI, SQL, Python and Excel to clean data, build visualisations, identify trends and improve the quality of our analysis.

This is a technical role within a small, collaborative team. You’ll need to communicate clearly with non-technical colleagues and occasionally support customer, press or event outputs, but your core focus will be data analysis, reports, dashboards and insight generation.

Responsibilities

Analyse and visualise public procurement data
Use Tableau, Power BI, Excel, SQL and/or Python to clean, analyse and visualise complex procurement datasets. Build dashboards and reports that help users understand market trends, supplier performance and commercial opportunities. Examples can be found in the
Reports section of our website

Build and maintain dashboards
Create and update dashboards used by customers, ensuring outputs are accurate, clearly structured and easy to interpret.

Improve data quality and analytical processes
Identify errors, inconsistencies and gaps in the data. Work with the Data Team to resolve issues and improve the reliability of Tussell’s datasets. Look for opportunities to automate repetitive analysis and reporting tasks.

Produce commercially useful insight
Turn analysis into clear findings that help suppliers understand public sector markets and make better commercial decisions.

Communicate findings clearly
Explain analytical outputs to colleagues and, where appropriate, customers. Support reports, press requests and events when analytical input is needed, but the core focus of the role is technical analysis and insight generation.

Experience

Essential

  • Around 1 year of experience in a data analyst, business analyst, research analyst or similar data-heavy role.

  • Experience building dashboards in Power BI or Tableau.

  • Working knowledge of SQL: able to query, join, filter and aggregate data.

  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.

  • Ability to clean, validate and sense-check messy datasets.

  • Concise and confident communication: able to explain findings clearly to non-technical audiences.

  • High attention to detail and curiosity.

  • Comfortable working independently in a small, fast-moving, high-responsibility team.

  • Full right to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Python experience, especially APIs or automation.

  • Experience with public sector, procurement, B2B SaaS, market intelligence or commercial research.

  • Experience designing dashboards for business users.

  • Interest in AI, data workflows, APIs and process improvement.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary is £33,000 - £37,000 per annum, depending on experience, with an annual salary review in December and every 12 months thereafter.

Benefits:
