Job Description:
Imaging Insurance Coordinators are responsible for verifying insurance and maintaining updated insurance coverage in all patient accounts. Communicates with other departments regarding patient coverage and eligibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Verifies all demographic, insurance, HIPAA, and copays through Practice Management System (PMS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Makes any necessary changes and/or add tasks in Radiology Information System (RIS) for imaging patient services to confirm with patient at check in.
- Chart checks each patient by adding all information and all relevant tasks into RIS for new patients to our imaging centers.
- Verifies and loads existing patient insurance changes and communicates changes to all necessary departments.
- Check Non TO and TO Rad Onc appointment template information with PMS. Notifies IAC if insurance needs verified or if demographic information needs to be updated. Add TN Onc MRN into patient’s RIS account, once IAC assigns to new patients.
- Notifies clinics or centralized insurance authorization coordinators when information is missing, incomplete or doesn’t match per patient registration or referring office.
- Works with centralized insurance authorization coordinators to verify eligibility when it has not recently been verified in PMS, if Subscriber ID or group number doesn’t not match scanned insurance card, if eligibility shows conditional verification, if copay information is missing and if patient just turned 65 and PMS doesn’t have a note about patient going on Medicare.
- Notifies IAC if patient is research and PMS needs to be updated to reflect proper billing for Medicare Advantage Plans.
- Submits requests to RIS IT Dept to update or add new insurance plans into the RIS system.
- Update RIS system when patient presents at check in with insurance changes after IAC has verified information is correct. Update RIS tasks.
- Obtain original Medicare effective dates from Palmetto website.
- Assists imaging patient services with all insurance related questions.
- Works with the imaging patient services to notify patient of any coordination of benefits issues to ensure appropriate and timely processing of claims.
- Documents insurance issues in RIS system.
- Makes insurance changes, documents, and communicates changes related to research, SNF, or Hospice in RIS system, as needed.
- Coordinates and communicates information required or requested by other teams within the mandated timeframe.
- Ensures up-to-date documentation on patient accounts in RIS on follow up or ongoing transactions.
- Communicates to other staff members using Instant Messaging System.
- Responds promptly to patient, physician, manager, and other department requests.
- Ability to travel/float to other imaging centers for business needs.
- Maintain and ensure confidentiality of patient information.
- Adheres to all Tennessee Oncology policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: (Knowledge, Skills, Ability)
- High school graduate or equivalent with GED.
- 2 years of previous professional office experience and/or customer service experience preferred.
- Electronic Medical Records experience preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Good verbal, listening, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work productively and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Dependable
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to travel to all imaging centers when necessary.
- Able to lift 25 pounds.
