Make your mark while you grow your career! Reporting to the Power Distribution Department Shift Team Lead, The Power Systems Electrician will support operations, maintenance, projects in high voltage transmission and distribution systems throughout Canadian Natural Albian Sands.
- Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta - Albian Sands Site
- Shift schedule: 7 x 7, 12-hour shifts (Tuesday- Monday)

Key Accountabilities:
- Collaborate within small power distribution department with a strong, self-motivated work ethic
- Operate and maintain onsite 5Kv/25Kv/72Kv power distribution system which includes isolating, permitting and shift rounds
What You Bring to the Role:
- The role requires a Journeyman Electrician with 10 years of oil site experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership position (Foreman/Assistant Foreman)
- Key technical capabilities include:
- High voltage troubleshooting: diagnosing faults and using advanced electrical indicators on high voltage systems
- Switch operation: operating 72kV Pascor and 25kV Omniruptor switches, including executing complex switching orders
- Hot stick procedures: utilizing live-line tools safely on live electrical systems with voltages up to 25kV
- Encroachment protocols: issuing and managing high voltage encroachments, specifically following Albian and ATCO guidelines
- Emergency response and safety compliance: responding to power system trips, system failures, and high-risk high voltage incidents, as well as enforcing strict high voltage safe work practices, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and specialized site permitting
- Familiarity or proficiency with testing equipment: operate Testrano, Omicron, Megger/Ductor, Hi-Pot (AC/DC), Ground Grid, and Battery sets (Load Bank, impedance, gravity), with the ability to proficiently operate crimp/Hypress tools up to 40 Tons
- Familiarity with transformers: test power transformers (winding resistance, turns ratio, Tan Delta, SFRA, aux functions, oil sampling)
- Ability to operate and maintain circuit breakers: service and test vacuum and SF6 breakers ranging from 5 kV to 72 kV (use of Cibano analyzers for timing tests and Ductor/Megger checks)
- Program and test microprocessor-based relays (feeder, transformer, generator, motor, ground fault)
- Cables and components: terminate and test cables (3M, Raychem, Pfisterer), CTs, VTs, NGRs, and ground grids
- The following certifications would be advantageous:
- 3M Termination Certified
- Certified with experience vulcanizing trailing cables
- Raychem Termination Certified
