JOB SUMMARY

The Cook prepares resident meals including special diets, according to physician orders and quality guidelines. This is a full-time, hourly position.

 

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Ensures resident satisfaction regarding meals through quality, quantity, and presentation.
  • Ensures all safety procedures are followed in the preparation of meals, including following prescribed meal diet orders for Maple Tree Village residents.
  • Observes and practices all department safety and sanitation standards.
  • Prepares, cooks, and serves general and special diet meals for residents.
  • Measures and mixes food ingredients according to recipes and menus, preparing all types of food according to accepted food production methods and regulatory requirements.
  • Practices proper portion control according to prescribed diet.
  • Uses steam table to maintain meals at proper temperatures before they are served.
  • Cleans cooking utensils, food preparation equipment, and kitchen areas according to schedules and prescribed methods; makes appropriate notations of food exchanges on daily menus.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High school graduate or GED required.
  • Culinary background with a minimum of two years’ recent commercial kitchen experience i.e.; restaurant, skilled nursing, assisted/independent living.
  • Strong prep skills; knowledge of breakfast, lunch and dinner entree preparation with knowledge of scratch soups, sauces/gravies, starches and vegetables. 
  • Varied styles of cuisines are a plus!
  • Must obtain a food handler card within 30 days of hire date. 
  • Ability to work weekends.
