Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider. Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time. Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,400 individuals every day across nine campuses in Charlotte.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing the production and execution of Roof Above’s marketing and communications initiatives. Serving as a central project manager for the Communications team, this position ensures that marketing and communications projects move efficiently from concept through completion. Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Marketing and Communications Manager supports the discovery, planning, and development of a robust communications pipeline that advances organizational priorities, program visibility, and philanthropic engagement. This role works closely with internal teams across the organization to identify communications needs, translate those needs into actionable projects, and schedules deliverables within a comprehensive communications calendar.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manage and maintain the organization’s comprehensive communications calendar, ensuring alignment across marketing, development, programming, and organizational priorities, including internal and external newsletters.
- Support the Director of Communications as the primary project manager for communications initiatives, coordinating timelines, deliverables, and workflows from concept through final production.
- Execute social media content calendar, coordinate post scheduling using a scheduling tool, and maintain responsive communication with followers through comments and direct messages.
- Support communications and volunteer teams with collaboration of community education requests management, calendar coordination, and education collateral needs.
- Organize and maintain a library of print and digital marketing collateral, ensuring materials are current, accessible, and aligned with brand standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify communications needs, clarify project objectives, align calendars, and develop clear scopes of work for marketing and communications initiatives.
- Coordinate the development and production of marketing collateral, including print materials, digital content, event materials, fundraising campaigns, and storytelling assets.
- Track project progress, deadlines, and deliverables to ensure timely completion and consistent quality across all communications initiatives.
- Manage and refine internal intake processes for communications requests, ensuring projects are prioritized appropriately and scheduled within the communications pipeline.
- Assist in collecting data and reporting on communications performance to inform future marketing strategies and initiatives.
- Support cross-department collaboration to ensure communications efforts accurately reflect program outcomes, community impact, and organizational priorities.
Perform additional communications and marketing duties as assigned by the Director of Communications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or relevant field
- Excellent interpersonal written, oral, and communication skills
- In-depth knowledge of digital and social media and channels
- Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple projects
- Flexibility and adaptability are a must
- Ability to work with diverse constituencies and commitment to collaboration and team-building
- Some nights or weekends required

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Individuals must be able to work with limited supervision, embrace a fast-paced environment, and be comfortable around diverse individuals, including persons with mental illness and substance-use issues.
The Philanthropy Team’s offices are located at Roof Above’s Day Services Center.
Position requires being on campus most days.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess a current and valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to be insured on the agency’s automobile policy.
- Must be able to drive agency-owned vehicles, including passenger vans.
- Must be able to lift 25-30 lbs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
