GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Cottage Shop Salesclerk is responsible for working with the Cottage Shop
Manager, Volunteer staff, Volunteers and hospital staff to ensure quality
customer service, to be knowledgeable, and to sell merchandise in an
environment of trustworthiness, integrity, and respect. The Salesclerk will
maintain complete records regarding cash register balance sheets. Clerk will
assist in training and ensure quality services from all volunteers working in the
Cottage Shop or Gift/Cookie Shop.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
- • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
- • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
- • Open and close register at Cottage Shop as instructed.
- Straighten and dust shelves
• Sort/process donated merchandise
• Oversee that merchandise that is being put out on the floor is being put in the appropriate areas
• Pack and price seasonal merchandise in bins before storing
• Make sure that all gift items are in good salable condition before being packed in bins
• Make sure that all clothing are salable before being packed in bins
• Make sure that the clothes that are being packed away for next season are the “best of the best”
• Assist and greet customers in a friendly manner
• Assist in training new volunteers per shift
• Using accurate register procedures when checking out customer
• Pick up donated merchandise from various vendors in the surrounding areas
• Assist Cottage Shop Manager where needed on any given day during work schedule
• Be able to work nights and weekends at the Cottage Shop and Gift/Cookie Shop when needed
• Need to be cross trained at Gift/Cookie Shop
• Physically be able to transport storage bins to and from Cottage Shop to storage building or basement in hospital.
• Be physically able to climb ladder
• Lift boxes up to 50 lbs.
• Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); experience cashier, and at least two-year sales experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
