Job Description

Job Summary

The Department of Engineering, Engineering Technology, and Surveying at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in Johnson City, TN invites applications for a full-time, 9-month faculty position beginning in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate lectures and labs in the Surveying and Mapping Science program, support student recruitment, participate in curriculum and laboratory development and maintenance, engage in service activities, and build strong connections with the land surveying and geomatics industry. The program is ABET-accredited, and the faculty member will contribute to ongoing departmental and program-level accreditation efforts. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the department.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in teaching land surveying topics, including (HJ1) fundamental surveying measurements, land surveying and boundary law, land and subdivision design, Geodesy, and survey automation techniques (e.g., GNSS receivers, laser scanners)
  • Ability to develop and teach interdisciplinary, project-based courses
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in both in-person and remote team environments
  • Commitment to academic service and student engagement

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying or a closely related field
  • Licensure as a Land Surveyor in the United States
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in the surveying field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in remote and in-person settings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Land Surveying
  • Prior teaching experience in surveying or engineering-related fields
  • Experience collaborating with individuals from a wide range of perspectives
