Job Overview
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Airfield Signs & Markings, this position oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of airfield signage and pavement marking operations. The Assistant Manager ensures compliance with FAA regulations, airport safety standards, and operational requirements while managing personnel and contractors responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of airfield signs and markings.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support execution of Signs & Markings operational plans, ensuring daily activities align with established safety, service, and infrastructure priorities.
Coordinate and oversee routine maintenance, repair, and installation work across airfield and landside environments, including signage, markings, lighting, and related electrical systems.
Supervise field crews perform installation, maintenance, and repair of street/airport signs, pavement markings, and traffic control devices.
Ensure work is performed safely and complies with departmental standards and regulations.
Schedule and assign daily work orders and inspect completed jobs.
Maintain inventory of materials and supplies.
Support the Manager with data collection, work order tracking, and budget input.
Provide hands-on technical assistance and serve as the escalation point for crew leads.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MIMIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree
Three (3) plus years of experience in traffic operations, transportation maintenance, or signage,
One (1) plus year of supervisory or lead experience.
Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong understanding of FAA regulations and airport operational standards.
Ability to plan, organize, and direct maintenance and installation activities.
Proficiency in interpreting technical plans and specifications.
Skilled in cost estimation, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Effective communication and leadership skills for managing teams and contractors.
Competence in using computer systems for work order tracking and data analysis.
DESIRABLE:
Contract compliance experience.
Quality assurance experience.
Knowledge of Airport systems, including Airfield Lighting, Landside Exterior/Garage Lighting, Emergency Power Systems, Gate Controllers, Switchgear, and both Airfield and Landside Signs and Markings.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in DFW Airport’s Categories and Classifications Administrative Policy and Procedure. An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.
EFFORTS:
Works in a combined office, industrial and field environment, and on site at locations throughout the Airport where contracted services are performed.
Uses keyboard devices and computer monitors.
Performs mathematical calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.
Uses reasoning in estimating, interpreting and problem-solving.
Exchanges information by telephone, two-way radio and in person.
Uses near-vision acuity in reading written documents.
Uses the ability to distinguish colors in reading reports, diagrams and schematics and in tracing systems.
Drives to locations on and off Airport property including the AOA.
