Job Description

The Senior Credit Underwriter is a Senior-level individual contributor within Institutional Client Group Corporate Banking, responsible for underwriting and advising on the credit structure of transactions across a portfolio of insurance clients, including life, property & casualty, reinsurance, and related financial structures.

Partners with Relationship Managers and Portfolio Managers to support new business origination, manage ongoing credit relationships, and ensure consistent execution of underwriting standards. Serves as a key escalation point for complex transactions and provides credit guidance across the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and manage credit exposures across an insurance portfolio, including new originations and existing relationships
  • Lead credit analysis and approval processes for complex transactions, providing independent risk assessments
  • Provide credit perspective on transaction structuring, including evaluation of key terms, risk mitigants, and alignment with risk appetite
  • Manage portfolio monitoring, including reviews, amendments, and covenant compliance
  • Serve as a senior resource and escalation point for underwriting and credit-related matters
  • Partner with Relationship Managers on client discussions and credit-related inquiries
  • Mentor junior team members and support consistent underwriting execution
  • Ensure adherence to credit policies and regulatory requirements

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in finance, accounting or other related field
- 10 or more years of banking experience
- Demonstrated experience underwriting complex corporate or institutional credit exposures

Preferred Skills/Experience

- Knowledge of insurance sectors, including life, P&C, reinsurance, and related structures

- Strong understanding of credit risk frameworks and lending policies

- Ability to evaluate and advise on credit structures, including terms and risk mitigants

-Strong analytical and communication skills

- Ability to influence and operate effectively within a team environment

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $170,255.00 - $200,300.00
