Provide essential clerical and front-desk support within patient care units while serving as a central communication hub that helps ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities
Communication & Customer Service: Welcome patients and visitors, manage secure unit access, answer calls, and relay information quickly and accurately while maintaining strict confidentiality. Keep care teams informed of updates and handle communication systems (phones, pagers, nurse call, etc.).
Patient Care Support: Maintain and manage patient records, process admissions/discharges, coordinate with clinical staff, and assist families with information, services, and resources.
Patient Flow Coordination: Partner with nursing staff and support departments to manage bed availability, patient placement, and room readiness to ensure smooth transitions of care.
Clerical Operations: Handle data entry, filing, supply management, equipment upkeep, and general office tasks to keep the unit organized and running efficiently.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; healthcare clerical training or experience preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills
- Basic computer proficiency; familiarity with medical terminology a plus
- Ability to provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment
West 12 is a 24-bed acute care unit. Nurses on this unit care for medical patients. Some of the main populations include: infants with diagnoses such as fever, rule out sepsis, hyperbilirubinemia, failure to thrive, dehydration, and bronchiolitis; and children of all ages with respiratory illnesses such as asthma, pneumonia, croup, and pertussis.
Orientation Requirements
If hired attendance will be required the first week at a New Hire Welcome day on Monday from 9a-4p. There are 3 days of central care partner orientation from 8a-4:30p on Tuesday, Wed and Thursday that first week. We prefer participation in all the sessions, but at minimum, the Thursday session is mandatory.
