Job Summary:

An Education Specialist develops, manages, analyzes, delivers and evaluates training programs. Enhanced critical thinking through the role of educator, clinical resource consultant, and change agent. This individual should be strongly grounded on research-based practice and focus on outcomes-based programming. Proficient skills in curriculum development, programming summative analysis, multimedia technology, and instructional/simulation/education software.

Job Duties:

Operations:                                                                                                                                                                                                   

  • Coordinate evidence-based professional development by assessing learning needs, designing and delivering educational programs, and evaluating outcomes to advance nursing and other clinical practice and support organizational goals.
  • Interprets educational needs and develops effective educational/instructional solutions; working projects from conception to completion. 
  • Develops, plans, coordinates and evaluates programs such as orientation, Nurse Residency Transition Program, annual competency, simulation, continuing education/CE, new services/products in clinical areas, and/or coordination of nursing/allied health students programs, and Epic education/access. 
  • Develops and enhances critical thinking through all performed roles.
  • Participates in the evaluation process of identified nursing personnel by analyzing the individual’s performance and making recommendations to their manager.
  • Applies the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to curriculum and project development, ensuring alignment with ANA and NPD standards of practice.

Quality/Customer Service:                                                                           

  • Participates in Performance Improvement process.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative interdepartmental/ intradepartmental relationships.
  • Communicates effectively with co-workers, associates, and managers.
  • Uses leadership, teambuilding, negotiation, conflict resolution, and customer experience skills across the system. Acts as a clinical resource/consultant as needed.
  • Effectively facilitate within the classroom/simulation/clinical setting.
  • Facilitate data collection to support research and validate investment of education center through program evaluation. 

Financial Accountability:                                                                                                      

  • Demonstrates fiscal accountability in all aspects of performance.
  • Manages assignments and/or projects in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Collaborates with manager to provide input in budget planning and implementation.
  • Collaborates with manager/director to show program evaluation and return on investment.

Professionalism:                                     

  • Assumes accountability for maintaining clinical skills for self.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, effective leadership skills, and ensures ongoing personal growth and development.
  • Actively participates, chairs or act as advisor for committees/councils. Actively supports professional practice initiatives (Magnet, PTAP, NPD, and other accreditation programs).
  • Motivates staff through example and encouragement to continue professional growth and education.  Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the nursing process, standards of care, research/evidence-based practice, and policies/procedures. 

Performs other duties as assigned.


 

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

  • Graduation from an accredited Master’s program of nursing.
  • If eligible, must have a Compact (multi-state) License in their primary state of residence.
  • Current licensure to practice nursing in the state where work is being performed.
  • Certification in BLS

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Expert knowledge of nursing standards and practice.
  • Must have knowledge of communication and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of adult education principles and instructional media.
     

Kind and Length of Experience:

  • Five years of experience in clinical nursing.
