  • Drive culturally safe legal services while mentoring the next generation of lawyers
  • Legal Officer Grade V, salary range $154,403 pa - $157,430 pa
  • Temporary Full-time role up to end of January 2027 (with possible extension or conversion to ongoing) at Sydney (Haymarket)

About the Role

 

This is an exciting role as part of a specialist team – the Family Law Service for Aboriginal Communities (FamAC). This is a leadership role that supports the team to deliver high-quality legal advice and services in care and protection, family law, and domestic violence matters. You’ll work on more complex cases, providing effective and timely support to disadvantaged Aboriginal clients. You will also play a part in supervising, mentoring and supporting others within the team.

You’ll also ensure all work meets relevant policies and requirements, while managing your caseload and related administrative tasks efficiently.

About You

 

We’re looking for an experienced senior solicitor with a strong background in family law and/or care and protection, and a genuine understanding of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. You’re committed to delivering culturally appropriate, high-quality legal services that make a real difference.

In this role, you’ll work in a busy and rewarding practice, handling complex matters while also supervising, supporting, and mentoring other solicitors. Your leadership will help build capability across the team and ensure clients receive the best possible service.

Essential Requirements

 

  • Hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency or a valid visa to work in Australia
  • Undertake relevant pre-employment checks such as Working with Children Check,

Criminal Record Check, and Conduct Service Check

  • Have Legal Qualification/s
  • Be admitted or eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW
  • Provide a current unrestricted NSW Practising Certificate before you start work with us
  • Be willing and have capacity to travel regularly to regional and remote areas or have a valid driver licence
  • Be a Registered practitioner of the High Court of Australia as per provisions of section 55B of the Judiciary Act 1903 (Cth)
  • Have experience in, and understanding and knowledge of, working in Aboriginal communities
