Sub-Assembly Assistant Supervisor
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
· Supervise, coach, and coordinate daily activities of assigned production personnel.
· Assign tasks, set daily goals, and help ensure production deadlines are met.
· Provide hands-on training in sheet-metal fabrication, assembly processes, and equipment operation.
· Conduct fair, consistent employee evaluations, issue coaching, counseling, and written warnings when necessary.
· Support cross-training initiatives to build a flexible, highly capable workforce.
Fabrication & Production Operations
· Interpret blueprints, specifications, and job orders to guide fabrication and assembly tasks.
· Select appropriate materials, gauges, and fabrication methods based on project requirements.
· Operate and train employees on fabrication equipment, including shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, plasma cutters, and hand/power tools.
· Inspect completed products to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with technical standards.
· Manage rework, warranty repairs, and improvement opportunities within production processes.
Safety, Compliance & Facility Oversight
· Enforce OSHA, company, and facility safety regulations.
· Conduct routine facility, equipment, and tool inspections for maintenance, calibration, and safety.
· Report safety incidents, near misses, and equipment concerns promptly.
· Maintain clean, safe, and organized production areas through active monitoring and team engagement.
Material, Inventory & Administrative Support
· Maintain accurate labor, timekeeping, and production records.
· Estimate labor and material requirements for job completion.
· Oversee material inventory, verify incoming orders, and coordinate with office staff for replacements or additional materials.
· Support shipping operations, including proper loading, inspection, and documentation.
· Strong knowledge of sheet-metal materials, fabrication processes, and forming techniques.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication instructions.
· Skilled in measurement tools including calipers, tape measures, squares, and protractors.
· Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to lift 25 lbs. regularly, 50 lbs. frequently, and 100 lbs. with assistance.
· Ability to manage shifting priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain high accuracy.
· Experience motivating and developing team members at various skill levels.
· 5+ years of commercial sheet-metal fabrication experience, including some supervisory or lead responsibilities.
· Valid driver’s license.
· Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or travel when required.
· Forklift Operator Certification
· Overhead Crane Operator Certification
· CPR/First Aid Certification
· Safety Training (OSHA awareness preferred)
