Your Impact
Manage tailings facilities to ensure safe storage, environmental compliance to regulatory and statutory requirements, and operational efficiency.
As part of our team you will
In this role, the individual will:
- Lead daily tailings operations to ensure efficient and environmentally responsible handling, storage, and disposal of tailings materials.
- Work with the EOR (engineer of records) to formulate comprehensive tailings handling plans, including the design and maintenance of tailings storage facilities to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
- Adhere to all tailings operations that comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to maintain a safe working environment. This includes GISTM compliance. Acts as the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer.
- Continuously monitor key performance indicators for tailings handling, analyze data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Deliver detailed reports on tailings operations performance, including metrics on stability, safety incidents, and environmental impact, to senior leadership.
- Guide, mentor, and refine the tailings handling team, providing training and professional growth opportunities to enhance their skills and performance.
- Execute regular performance evaluations, deliver feedback, and establish goals to ensure continuous improvement and impactful team morale.
- Responsible for identifying relevant risks, applying mitigation measures, and continuously monitoring risks.
- Collaborate with contractors to adhere to compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and contractual obligations, while maintaining alignment with organizational goals.
- Manage water balance in regard to the tailings storage facility.
Prerequisites for your success in this role
The primary skills required for the role include tailings management, environmental compliance, and safety regulations. Considering the supervisory aspect of the role, the accepted body of knowledge, such as formal education qualifications in Environmental Engineering, Mining, Metallurgical or Civil Engineering, or related fields, should be taken into account to support these activities within your organization.
Advanced English (spoken and written) and Spanish are a must.
Include required knowledge that has been gained through work practice with tailings storage facility design, safety audits, and risk assessments. KPI monitoring and report preparation.

- Ability to work effectively in remote industrial or mining environments.
Your work environment
The position will require travel to appropriate locations (Mostly Cajamarca/Site and Lima) to support the operation.
The position will require periodic living in the Yanacocha camp.
The person must be in good health and physical condition to work in the field in various climatic conditions and at altitudes of up to 4,000 meters above sea level.
The incumbent may be required to travel and assist other sites nationally and internationally.
