Position overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytically minded Manufacturing Engineering Intern to support process documentation and continuous improvement efforts on the production floor. The intern will take ownership of rebuilding Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) from the ground up, working directly with operators and engineers to identify gaps, resolve inconsistencies, and produce clear, reliable work instructions. This role sits at the intersection of manufacturing engineering, quality systems, and process improvement.

Key responsibilities

  • Review, revise, and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and visual work instructions across production processes, addressing outdated specifications, missing torque values, and undefined assembly steps
  • Collaborate with operators and manufacturing engineers to capture tribal knowledge and translate it into accurate, standardized documentation
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate the creation of work instructions and improve documentation quality and consistency
  • Evaluate existing processes for error-proofing opportunities, identifying improvements to tooling, fixturing, packaging, or workstation layout
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles to assess whether process changes — such as rack redesigns or standard packaging solutions — can reduce cycle time or minimize variability
  • Partner cross-functionally with quality, engineering, and production teams to validate documentation accuracy and drive sign-off

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and quality systems (e.g., ISO, PFMEA, or similar) is preferred
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to translate complex processes into clear, concise instructions
  • Analytical mindset with a demonstrated ability to identify problems and propose practical solutions
  • Comfortable working in a production floor environment and engaging directly with operators and technical staff
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with documentation or PLM software is a plus

What you will gain

  • Hands-on experience in process engineering and manufacturing documentation within a production environment
  • Practical exposure to lean manufacturing methodologies and quality systems
  • Experience applying AI tools in an industrial setting to modernize documentation workflows
  • Cross-functional collaboration skills working alongside engineering, quality, and operations teams
  • A portfolio of completed SOPs and process improvements with measurable impact on production reliability

Pay Range: $22 - $25 per hour
