Job Description

Lockerbie DG11

Rotating shift pattern (days only)

Are you passionate about quality, science and ensuring that every product meets the highest standards? Do you enjoy working in a laboratory environment where your attention to detail and analytical skills make a real difference every day?

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our team at Arla Foods Lockerbie on a 12-month fixed term contract. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a fast-paced dairy manufacturing environment, supporting product quality and food safety through accurate testing, analysis and reporting.

As part of our laboratory team, you’ll play a vital role in helping us deliver safe, high-quality dairy products to our customers while working alongside experienced colleagues in a supportive and collaborative environment.

How you will make an impact

As a Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out laboratory testing and analysis to ensure products and materials meet the required quality standards. You’ll work closely with production and quality teams, providing accurate results and helping to identify and escalate any issues that could impact product quality.

Key responsibilities will include

  • Conducting laboratory tests and analyses on products and materials in accordance with defined procedures.
  • Interpreting test results and escalating any non-conformance issues in a timely manner.
  • Communicating and reporting laboratory results to relevant departments across the site.
  • Ensuring company standards, laboratory methods and procedures are consistently followed.
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring instrumentation is calibrated and verified before use.

This role sits within the site’s Quality function and is a 12-month fixed-term contract. Hours of work include weekday and weekend working on day shift 3-2-2-3 rota basis, together with holiday cover as required.

What will make you successful

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working in a laboratory environment and takes pride in producing accurate, reliable results.

You will ideally have

  • Previous laboratory experience, preferably within a food or manufacturing environment although this is not essential.
  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
  • The ability to prioritise workload and interpret laboratory results effectively.
  • A strong focus on accuracy and adherence to laboratory methods and procedures.
  • Experience of CLAS-based laboratory procedures (desirable).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different departments.
  • Flexibility to support the laboratory rota, including weekend working.

To be successful in this role, you’ll be

  • Detail-focused – ensuring high levels of accuracy in testing and reporting.
  • Proactive – identifying issues early and taking appropriate action.
  • Collaborative – working as part of a team to support quality, safety and operational excellence.

What do we offer?

At Arla, you’ll join a market-leading dairy business where quality, innovation and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything we do. You’ll be part of a supportive team that values collaboration, development and knowledge sharing.

We’re committed to helping our colleagues grow and develop their careers, providing opportunities to build technical expertise and gain valuable experience within a world-class manufacturing environment. You’ll work alongside knowledgeable colleagues who are passionate about delivering the highest standards for our customers and consumers.
