TCOLE Mission
The mission of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, as a regulatory State agency, is to establish and enforce standards to ensure that the people of Texas are served by highly trained and ethical law enforcement, corrections, and telecommunications personnel.
Our Internship Program
TCOLE's comprehensive internship program provides college students with valuable firsthand experience in law enforcement standards, training, and administration. Through an 8–10-week structured experience in our Education Services Department, this intern will develop practical skills while contributing to meaningful projects that support the agency's regulatory mission. Our program features a unique leadership development module that enhances professional growth while building connections with experienced professionals across law enforcement communities.
Who We're Looking For
The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is seeking a motivated college student for our Summer 2026 internship program located at 6330 E HWY 290, Suite 200, Austin, TX.
The Education Services College Intern performs professional-level work assisting the Education team within TCOLE. Performs technical assistance work involving implementing TCOLE’s education programs and providing technical assistance to program staff and government agencies. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Compensation is $3,520 monthly for the duration of the 8–10-week program.
Examples of Work Performed
Participates in building course curriculum and e-learning materials utilizing fundamental adult learning principles and established instructional templates.
Creates educational resources including instructor-led presentations, e-learning modules, and standard job aids.
Develops and maintains Instructional Resource Guides (IRGs) to ensure clarity and instructional effectiveness with supervisory review.
Coordinates with subject matter experts to gather content and ensure accuracy of educational materials.
Assists with training project coordination, including timeline adherence and stakeholder communication.
Builds course content in learning management systems, including simple multimedia components.
Develops evaluation methods including course assessments and exam questions to measure learning outcomes.
Assists with quality assurance activities and program evaluation.
Simplifies concepts and writes instructional text for standard training needs.
Coordinates with stakeholders to provide technical assistance and program information.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university or a recent graduate (within the past 12 months). Pursuing or completed a degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Education, Technical Writing, Curriculum and Instruction or related field.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Ability to write and edit technical, procedural, and training documents, particularly for instructor-led environments.
Ability in using research to plan and develop educational materials; e-learning development software; working with learning management systems; project coordination techniques; in the use of grammar and mechanics; in the use of a computer and applicable software.
Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze information; to devise solutions to routine problems; to prepare reports; to simplify moderately complex concepts; to develop relationships with various levels of stakeholders.
Work collaboratively and independently; to formulate and develop learning objectives; to assess training effectiveness; highly developed written and oral communication skills; ability to present in person and virtually to various sized audiences; to communicate effectively.
Skills in planning, prioritizing work activities, and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to the program area; public administration techniques; and program management processes and techniques.
Previous volunteer or work experience in law enforcement or public service.
Experience with data analysis and report preparation.
Understanding of regulatory compliance and administrative procedures.
Program Structure
This comprehensive 8–10-week internship follows a structured format:
Progressive project work addressing current agency needs.
Weekly leadership development training.
Mentorship from division supervisors throughout program.
Final project presentation to agency leadership.
Internship Duration
8 – 10 weeks: June 8, 2026, ending August 14, 2026
Full-time (40 hours/week)
In office position.
Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
