Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains safe conditions for integral parts of the building (e.g. flooring, doors, windows, stairs, ceiling panels, bathrooms, structural classroom furniture).
  • Performs regularly scheduled maintenance and additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Maintenance & Operations.
  • Performs craftsman tasks relating to building repairs and improvements.
  • Maintains building and premises to be neat and clean at all times. Keeps grounds free from rubbish.
  • Reports to and remains at work per stated work hours.
  • Ensures that the building is opened/closed properly and in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that door and window systems are functioning properly.
  • Completes assigned work orders.
  • Plows and sands/salts sidewalks as appropriate.
  • Reports damage of school property immediately upon being known.
  • Complies with local, state and federal ordinances for storage and disposal of trash and waste.
  • Instructs custodians and other maintenance personnel on the proper use of hardware and building materials, hand tools, and power equipment.
  • Completes all District compliance training as required.
  • Participate in District-sponsored training programs to maintain and update knowledge, skills, certifications, and licenses as required for this position.
  • Effectively communicate and appropriately respond to various forms of electronic communication provided by the District.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from high school or technical school or comparable experience.
  • Working knowledge of the methods, tools, mechanical equipment and techniques used in custodial work; working knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions and fire and sanitation codes.
  • Ability to operate various types of power and hand machinery and tools.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions/directives with a minimum of direction.
  • Ability to make repairs on mechanical equipment and to analyze and diagnose trouble/malfunctions in more complex and sophisticated mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to complete a variety of maintenance tasks such as, but not limited to: electrical, plumbing, and mechanical issues, general repair types of tasks, and woodworking.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive public, student, and co-worker relationships.
  • Clearance of FBI Background check required.
  • TB test within 90 days of hire date; Physical Exam within 90 days.
