
Pharmacist Intern
Job Description
Reviews and interprets orders for inpatients and outpatients to ensure the appropriateness of dosage and to determine the significance of potential drug-drug interaction. Prepares and dispenses appropriate amount of inpatients and outpatient medication. Conducts medication rounds and prepare IV additives using aseptic techniques. Monitor selected patient’s therapy with pharmacokinetic analysis of therapeutic drug levels to ensure effective therapy. Participate in educational programs and projects designed to improve the clinical and operational components of the department.
- Prepares IV mixtures according to established procedures. Fills patient medication drawers and unit dose medication orders. Fills automated dispensing machines and other unit supplies.
- Picks up orders and medications for return from patient care areas. Makes deliveries to patient care areas. Enters charges and credits.
- Checks areas of responsibility for outdated medications and adequate levels of stock. Unpacks and stocks orders. Prepackages bulk medication to unit dose or IV bulk products to syringes.
- Assists customers to locations throughout the hospital by providing clear and accurate directions or by personally escorting them when needed. Can answer most questions or at least knows where to find the answers. Familiar with selected hospital policies and procedures.
- Effective and efficient use of equipment, supplies and people. Identifies inefficiencies and inaccuracies, responding appropriately. Acts as a data collector for department/facility PI activities. Data collection is complete and accurate. Works to ensure the department meets regulatory standards.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Required:
- Education: Actively enrolled in an accredited college/ school of Pharmacy and demonstrating progress to completing the program.
- Licensure/Certification:
- Current Pharmacy Intern license
- American Heart Association BLS Certification, must be obtained within 7 days of hire
- Preferred:
- Experience: Prior experience
