Now Hiring: 1 FT Accountant (Accounting)
Location: Newcastle, WY | Department: Dietary | FLSA: Exempt | Reports to: CFO
JOB SUMMARY
The accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely management of the financial transactions and reporting. This position prepares reconciliations and journal entries, assists with accounts payable, supports month-end closing processes, and ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Process vendor invoices and prepare accounts payable for payment.
- Enter cash receipts and cash disbursements into the accounting system.
- Assist with the preparation and posting of journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
- Maintain accurate general ledger account activity, including reviewing transactions, supporting documentation, account coding, and department classifications.
- Support monthly financial reporting by preparing schedules, reconciling accounts, and assisting with variance explanations as requested.
- Assist with hospital accounting functions, including accounts payable support, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, cash activity, and interdepartmental allocations.
- Support budget preparation by compiling historical expense data, updating department schedules, and assisting with data entry into budget templates or accounting systems.
- Assist with capital asset tracking, including maintaining fixed asset records, supporting capital project documentation, and reconciling capital expenditures to the general ledger.
- Support grant accounting and nonprofit fund accounting by tracking grant-related revenues and expenses, maintaining supporting documentation, and assisting with required reporting.
- Assist with cost report, audit, and compliance-related requests by preparing schedules, gathering documentation, and ensuring accounting records are complete and accurate.
- Maintain accurate accounting system records, including general ledger structure, department codes, account mappings, and supporting crosswalks.
- Work collaboratively with finance, revenue cycle, payroll, purchasing, and department leaders to research accounting discrepancies and ensure transactions are recorded properly.
- Participate in process improvement efforts related to accounting workflows, internal controls, reconciliations, documentation, and financial reporting.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, vendor, and patient-related information in accordance with hospital policies and applicable regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree in accounting or related field; a Bachelors or related advanced degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience required, preferably within the healthcare services industry.
- Experience in acute care, hospital inpatient, and healthcare operations is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial data and information to stakeholders.
- Proficiency with excel and word required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasional after-hours calls may occur.
- Must be able to access, find, and navigate each department at WCHS.
- Positions requires light to moderate work with 50 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry.
- Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing.
