GENERAL FUNCTION
The Sr. Accountant participates in all function based activities related to accounting and internal controls for Accounts Payable. Will lead special projects and initiatives, and will act in a supporting and supervisory role to others on the team.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform month-end accounting close activities including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations and other reporting schedules and data analysis.
- Review journal entries for accuracy and timely completion based on deadlines.
- Reconcile vendor payments against bank statement and resolve all discrepancies.
- Provide subject matter expertise for accounts payable related matters to team and in support of all functional departments and business units.
- Assume a supervisory and support role to other team members as issues are escalated and while driving process improvements.
- Leverage system knowledge to prepare analysis to support management initiatives and audit requests.
- Responsible for various function-based accounting activities (e.g. deferrals and accruals for expenses relating to legal, marketing, etc.).
- Reconciles and reviews vendor statements, AP trade and GR/IR accounts to properly record liabilities and expenses.
- Maintains continuous improvement mindset and proactively identifies, reviews and implements process improvements.
- Assumes additional responsibilities and assist with special projects as needed or directed.
- Maintain proper Internal Controls and compliance with policies and with GAAP and IFRS accounting requirements
- Recognize financial opportunities and exposures, and escalate as appropriate, by effectively explaining the underlying issues and proposing a solution.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3 to 5 years of comparable experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good english language skills
- Demonstrates willingness and ability to be a self-starter, taking the initiative to solve problems/pursue business opportunities.
- Proven accounting experience with working knowledge of GAAP
- Ability to adapt to shifting and competing priorities.
- Strong analytical/problem solving skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Solid organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to learn new systems quickly
- Knowledge of MS Dynamics Great Plains and SAP is a plus.
- Knowledge of Metaviewer or comparable OCR system is a plus.
- Makes sound business decisions and acts with integrity
- Effectively manage time in order to successfully achieve goals.
