
Kennel Manager
Job Description
I. GENERAL FUNCTIONS
The Kennel Manager supervises all kennel technicians and is responsible for the quality and quantity of services provided as well as the financial viability of the department. Work includes ensuring self and team adhere to Pfister Animal Hospital quality and safety standards.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises and coordinates all kennel technicians. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Pfister Animal Hospital’s policies and applicable laws.
Monitors and coordinates daily work schedule to expedite accomplishment or essential and emergency tasks. Issues instructions to staff, examines work results, and provides training to improve performance.
Develops and implements changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of staff.
Analyzes and resolves work problems and/or assists staff in resolving work problems
Interviews candidates in accordance with best practices
Hires qualified candidates and trains to set new employees up for success, to include all onboarding responsibilities
Appraises performance on an monthly / quarterly / annual basis
Use and maintain equipment and tools properly
Coordinates the ordering of supplies and equipment and maintains inventory control in conjunction with the Practice Manager
Performs related work as required and specified by the Practice Manager.
III. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing
Ability to lead and work with other staff to ensure coordination of activities
Ability to observe safety and security procedures, determine appropriate action beyond guidelines, and report potentially unsafe conditions.
Ability to promote teamwork and maintain positive working relationships with all employees and departments
Considerable skill with handling pets, detecting medical problems, and quickly reacting to emergency situations
Ability to properly handle, exercise, and control large and/or difficult pets
Skilled at possessing professionalism, courtesy, tact, and sound judgment
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, staff, customers, and the general public.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Knowledge of computer database software applications
Skilled at working with a diverse group of customers and co-workers
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work well under time constraints and work a flexible work schedule
Ability to maintain confidentiality of customer and company information
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with owners, coworkers, customers, and other management
Ability to give and welcome feedback and contribute to building a positive team spirit
Strong supervisory skills
Able to work AM or PM shifts, overtime, holidays, weekends as needed
IV. DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
At least two - four years of experience with companion pets, hospitality and basic knowledge of pet behavior & characteristics is required
V. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from a high school or equivalent and or college / university / technical school; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience
Must have or be able to obtain valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to and from work
Must 21 years of age
Ability to work inside the United States
