General Description
The CDL Driver is responsible for the safe operation and transportation of heavy equipment, materials, and machinery using Lowboy trailers, CDL-A Rollbacks, and CDL-A Dump Trucks. This role requires a Class A CDL, experience in hauling oversized loads, and adherence to DOT and FMCSA safety regulations. The CDL Driver will work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and equipment operators to ensure timely and efficient deliveries.
Key Duties
Equipment & Material Transportation:
Safely operate and haul heavy equipment using Lowboy trailers, Rollback trucks, and Dump Trucks.
Load, secure, and transport construction materials, machinery, and oversized loads to and from job sites.
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensuring vehicle safety and regulatory compliance.
Properly secure loads with chains, binders, and straps following DOT cargo securement standards.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety:
Follow USDOT & FMCSA regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) requirements.
Ensure compliance with state and federal weight limits, permits, and route restrictions.
Maintain accurate logbooks, trip records, and required documentation.
Adhere to company safety protocols, wearing proper PPE and following best practices for safe loading and unloading.
Communication & Coordination:
Work closely with site supervisors, mechanics, and dispatch to coordinate deliveries and pickups.
Communicate effectively regarding scheduling changes, site conditions, and delivery requirements.
Report any vehicle malfunctions, maintenance needs, or incidents to the appropriate personnel.
General Responsibilities:
Keep trucks clean, well-maintained, and organized at all times.
Assist in minor truck maintenance and inspections when necessary.
Perform additional duties as assigned within other crafts.
Qualification Requirements
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Class A CDL required with an acceptable driving record per company MVR policy.
3+ years of experience driving Lowboy trailers, Rollbacks, and Dump Trucks.
Experience hauling heavy equipment, construction materials, and oversized loads preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations.
Proficiency in cargo securement techniques for hauling heavy equipment.
Ability to read maps, follow GPS routing, and navigate efficiently.
Excellent communication and time management skills.
Physical Demands
Frequent sitting, standing, bending, and climbing in and out of trucks.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs with assistance.
Work in various weather conditions and at active construction sites.
Work Environment
Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
Regular exposure to high noise levels, dust, and moving equipment.
May involve long hours, early mornings, and weekend work as required by job schedules.
