Job Description

Company: Confidential

Location: Toronto, ON

Work Configuration: Onsite

Company Overview:

Our client is a rapidly growing, venture-backed financial technology company building next-generation cash management and automated banking tools for commercial brands. By combining advanced AI systems with automated workflows, they help consumer-facing enterprises streamline their financial operations. Their digital platform processes significant market volume for an expansive portfolio of prominent retail and e-commerce companies.

Their core team brings together cross-functional leadership from premier tech ecosystems and top-tier global consultancies. To date, they have secured over $40M in institutional funding from elite venture capital firms to accelerate our expansion.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a proactive, hands-on People & Talent Operations Manager to take comprehensive ownership of the day-to-day HR and recruiting functions. In this role, you will manage vital operations across multi-country payroll, hiring logistics, compliance, and team onboarding. As they scale, you will bring greater structure to existing internal frameworks, help establish new organizational guidelines, and explore innovative ways to embed company policies into their proprietary operational workflows.

This position is a fully in-office role based at their downtown Toronto location.

Responsibilities:

People & HR Operations:

  • Global Compensation: Oversee and execute payroll, independent contractor disbursements, and incentive structures across both Canadian and US entities.
  • Team Lifecycle Management: Direct the end-to-end employee onboarding and offboarding processes, including drafting offer agreements, coordinating equity tracking with external legal partners, and managing internal role transitions.
  • Benefits & Expense Tracking: Supervise corporate benefits systems (retirement savings, parental leaves, health plans) and audit team expenses to ensure strict alignment with corporate finance guidelines.
  • Compliance Oversight: Maintain and update legal workplace documents, ensuring the company stays ahead of regional, federal, and international tax and employment laws (including multi-state business registrations and corporate insurance).

Recruitment & Talent Support:

  • Candidate Experience: Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective hires, ensuring an engaging, professional interview process from sourcing to final offer.
  • Pipeline Logistics: Administer internal applicant tracking platforms, coordinate interview calendars, manage relationship contracts with external headhunters, and proactively source talent for critical positions.

Requirements:

  • Professional Experience: 3 to 5 years of dedicated experience in people operations, human resources, corporate operations, or equivalent startup environments.
  • Cross-Border Payroll: Proven track record running payroll across multiple legal jurisdictions (specifically the United States and Canada).
  • Technical & Legal Aptitude: Familiarity managing applicant tracking platforms and payroll software; comfortable partnering with employment attorneys on sensitive issues.
  • Execution & Autonomy: High degree of discretion, supreme attention to detail, and a self-starting mindset that thrives in fast-paced settings without requiring constant direction.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills, particularly when discussing confidential matters like payroll, compensation, and workplace regulations.
  • Asset Skills: Previous experience navigating work visas/immigration processes, familiarity with Ontario employment standards (e.g., ROE filings), or an interest in using generative AI tools to automate operational workflows.

You Will Thrive Here If:

  • You prefer working closely in person with an ambitious, low-ego team.
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and enjoy iterating on fresh ideas.
  • You take pride in maintaining an exceptionally polished standard for both internal colleagues and external partners.

What this Opportunity Offers:

  • The opportunity to join an established, well-capitalized fintech startup at a foundational stage.
  • Highly competitive salary alongside meaningful equity incentives.
  • Vibrant downtown office location with excellent transit accessibility.
  • Comprehensive health benefits, generous paid time off, and wellness stipends.
  • Annual company-wide offsite retreats.

Compensation:

The typical salary range for this position is between $100,000 and $150,000 CAD. The final agreed-upon salary may vary depending on factors such as location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
