Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Lecturer of Applied Psychology / A-Level Psychology to join Central Saint Michael's Sixth Form on a fixed-term basis.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator or Psychology specialist who is passionate about delivering outstanding teaching within the further education sector. You will play a key role in delivering engaging and high-quality Psychology provision, supporting learners to develop the academic knowledge, analytical skills and confidence required for progression into higher education and careers within psychology, health, social sciences and related sectors.

Working closely with the Head of Section and wider curriculum team, you will contribute to the continued development of the provision, ensuring learners receive an outstanding educational experience that supports achievement, progression and positive outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Applied Psychology and A-Level Psychology programmes. 
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons in line with curriculum specifications and awarding body requirements. 
  • Undertake course leadership and personal tutor responsibilities, supporting learners academically and pastorally. 
  • Participate in curriculum planning, development and quality improvement activities. 
  • Maintain accurate academic and administrative records in line with College procedures. 
  • Work collaboratively with curriculum teams to ensure consistently high standards of teaching and learning. 
  • Support the development and expansion of the Psychology provision. 


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • A degree and/or relevant professional qualification in Psychology or a related subject. 
  • A teaching qualification such as a Certificate in Education or Level 5 Teaching Qualification, or willingness to work towards one. 
  • Experience delivering high-quality teaching and learning within a further education or sixth form environment. 
  • Experience delivering relevant Psychology qualifications, including Applied Psychology and/or A-Level Psychology. 
  • Experience preparing and evaluating engaging learning materials and assessment resources. 
  • Knowledge of key skills and functional skills within teaching practice. 
  • Experience of internal verification and moderation processes would be advantageous. 

Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:

Accepted Qualifications:
  • DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • Certificate in Education
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education) 
  • DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
  • DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject
If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).

Not Accepted as Stand Alone Qualifications:
  • PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) 
  • SFHEA (Senior Fellowship)
  • Masters in Education
  • TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)
