Job description
Oxford International Junior Programmes offers a range of summertime ESL programmes at carefully chosen centres in the UK, Canada, and the US. Our programmes aim to create a study experience of educational value, of cultural interest, and, of course, full of fun and memories to take home.
Our Toronto summer program is based out of Toronto Metropolitan University*, where students receive a combination of 15 hours English language lessons per week and a comprehensive programme of activities and excursions. The activity programme will include daytime and evening activities as well as half-day and full-day excursions to attractions and places of cultural interest.
We are currently looking for staff for contracts of various length from end-of-June to early August 2026 (programme dates are June 28 – August 9, 2026). A limited number of residential positions are available. Full board accommodation included in residential position employment packages available.
The Role
As an ESL/EFL instructor, you will be responsible for delivering a successful academic experience to our students. You will work with the Director of Studies to deliver engaging ESL lessons from the OIEG Junior Syllabus, in line with the standards set out in the Teachers’ Handbook. You will be the first resource for academic questions, both from students and staff.
OI Junior Programmes provide course books and teachers’ books which are the foundation for planning and teaching, teachers are expected to work within this framework but are still encouraged incorporate their unique skills and styles into their lessons.
You will also deal with student requests and questions regarding their levels and their progress. Most students will arrive in Canada with a chaperone (Group Leader), who may be the student’s advocate and representative for academic concerns. You will also ensure that any student behavioural issues are dealt with appropriately, coordinating with the activity and residence staff as needed.
The instructor will also be required to assist the Director of Studies as needed, especially with our weekly testing and graduations. As students arrive to the programme, teachers will test their English proficiency to ensure they are placed in classes that correspond to their levels. Afterwards, instructors will help coordinate a graduation ceremony each week for students finishing their course and ensure that each student receives a personalized graduation certificate.
Additional Activity programme work, leading excursions and on-site activities, may also be available.
