
Medical Records Specialist
Job Description

Ensure that all health information being managed within the HIM department meets legal, medical, and ethical standards, while ensuring that medical records are accurate, complete, and timely.Required Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience:
- Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks as appropriate
- Excellent command of verbal and written English; positive interpersonal communication dynamic with strong organizational skills
- Ability to clearly, accurately and professionally present and explain complex information to patients, employees, and managers
- Excellent telephone skills
- Detail oriented with the ability to prioritize and plan work activities efficiently.
- Ability to multi-task, handle interruptions and work effectively in a fast-paced, professional environment.
- Requires outstanding oral and written communication skills in working with all stakeholders, including providers, internal and external customers, peers and colleagues.
- Proficiency in technology usage, including Microsoft office software
- Ability to operate general office equipment to include personal computer, CD burner, scanner, printer, telephone, fax and copy machine.
- Troubleshoot computer or system failures with IT to resolve downtime situations timely
- Ability to work under minimal supervision, while maintaining optimal quality and productivity of work.
- Responsible for safeguarding patient records and ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience:
- One year or more of Health Information Management experience, with one year or more of office/clerical/computer experience.
- Effective maintenance and control of Master Patient Index (MPI) file.
- Admissions processing, release of information/verbal requests processing for internal and external requestors
- Experience Cerner a plus.
- A.S. Health Information Technology or B.S. Health Information Management preferred.
Educational Requirements:
- High school graduate with knowledge of medical terminology
License/Certification:
- N/A

Salary Range: $19.85-$30.05-
Salary Range Details
The pay range displayed on each job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. This is not inclusive of the value Sturdy Health’s benefits package (if applicable), which includes among other benefits, healthcare/dental/vision and retirement. For annual salaries this is based on full-time employment.
