We are seeking a Director, Property Accounting to join our corporate office located in Jacksonville, FL. This is a hybrid opportunity with approximately 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely after the training period. This Director-level role leads property accounting operations for a large portfolio while driving strategic change, process improvement, and cross-functional communication. The position is responsible for ensuring strong accounting compliance with GAAP and financial integrity, while also modernizing processes, implementing technology and analytics solutions, and improving how the team works across the organization. The role also develops talent, builds leadership capability, and partners with operational and financial stakeholders to align accounting processes with business priorities and enterprise strategy.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Provide oversight and accountability for activities performed in the Property Accounting team relating to the national portfolio of properties and centralized processes to ensure financial integrity and operational excellence. Perform monthly review of portfolio to ensure accounting is in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Manage the day-to-day activities of the team, providing guidance and subject matter expertise as needed to ensure effective and efficient functioning of the department and to ensure all assigned activities are completed on time and accurately. Manage multiple global processes including tenant reconciliation and recovery revenue estimations, accounting for operating property acquisitions and dispositions and various expense allocations to the portfolio of properties. Lead the implementation and continuous optimization of technology solutions and analytics tools to enhance accounting accuracy, efficiency, and reporting capabilities for property accounting team.
Responsible for coaching, developing and mentoring the Property Accounting team to build a pipeline of future leaders and enhancing team dynamics and employee engagement. Foster a workforce that strives for continuous process improvement, is technically proficient and strategically focused to drive scalability and reduce operational risk. Provide informal feedback to staff on an ongoing basis and formal feedback in the form of the annual performance evaluation. Manage team staffing through the appropriate hiring, termination and disciplinary actions.
Work collaboratively with Market Officers, Regional Property Managers, Financial Services, and A&R teams to identify improvement opportunities to optimize operational efficiencies while ensuring compliance with Regency policies, business priorities, and strategic direction.
Assist with ad hoc projects, reporting and other duties as necessary.
Are You Qualified?
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field required
Master’s Degree preferred, with a concentration in management or accounting
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
10+ years of experience in Accounting, Finance or Auditing, or related field preferably for a public company
5+ years real estate experience preferred
8+ years of people management experience
Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and related concepts
Advanced ability to read and comprehend legal documents
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, email and internet software, particularly Excel required
Exceptional quantitative and analytical skills including knowledge of financial models and formulas typically used in real estate industry
Experience working with JD Edwards and/or other advanced accounting software
Advanced technical skills require researching accounting treatment for certain transactions
Intermediate ability to analyze data models in PowerBI or other similar reporting tool.
