Position Overview:

The Communications Coordinator will support the Regional Communications Manager in the Boston/New England area. This role is ideal for an early-career communications professional who is eager to gain experience in communications and media relations and to contribute to key Youth Villages initiatives in New England. The Communications Coordinator will assist with the implementation of regional marketing communications, public relations strategies and campaigns to raise awareness and support for Youth Villages among stakeholders, influencers, youth and families, external customers, and donors.

This position reports to the Regional Communications Manager and will work closely with the New England Leadership Team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Communications Coordinator:
 

  • Support Regional Communications: Assists in implementing communication strategies, ensuring alignment with state and national goals. Helps to develop and execute the New England communications plan, including setting timelines and tracking progress against goals. Supports Executive Leadership Team with communications needs.

  • Project Management: Coordinates various communications projects, ensuring timelines are met, tasks are completed efficiently and all stakeholders are kept informed of progress. Assists in organizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Content Creation: Manages content planning and creation for internal and external communications, including drafting success stories, social media posts, newsletters, development communications, thought leadership pieces for Youth Villages blog and more. Conducts interviews with youth, families and staff as needed.

  • Event Support: Assists in promoting and supporting key development programs and events through communication materials and media outreach. Represents Youth Villages at events as needed.

  • Administrative Support: Monitors daily media coverage, prepare reports and assist with maintaining digital clip files. Provides general support to the Regional Communications Manager and other team members as needed.

  • Communication: Demonstrates strong communication skills, both written and verbal and adjusts communication style to meet the needs of different audiences.

  • Accountability: Takes responsibility for tasks and ensures timely completion, while also anticipating potential challenges and addressing them proactively.

  • Teamwork: Works collaboratively with team members and contributes to a positive team dynamic.

  • Attention to Detail: Exhibits a thorough and detailed approach to work, ensuring accuracy in all communications and tasks.

  • Initiative: Takes initiative to identify opportunities for improvement and acts on them, rather than waiting for direction.

The ideal candidate possesses the following:

  • Passion for Mission: A genuine interest in helping children and families live successfully.

  • Skills: Must be a strong writer and possess strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and compelling messages. Strong project management and organizational skills required.

  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving abilities.

  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with graphic design or video editing software is a plus.

  • Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Travel: Must have access to a car and be able to travel to various locations regionally as needed.

  • Availability: Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends, especially during key events or campaigns.

  • Physical Demands: Capable of lifting up to 25 pounds of equipment or materials and standing for prolonged periods during events.

Salary:

$75,000-$80,000 per year based on education and experience


Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in communications, public relations, marketing or a related field (preferred)

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing or a related field (required)

  • 1-3 years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing (required)
