Job Summary
Manage the inspection and testing programs of the various fire protection systems within the refinery. Coordinate inspection of firewater and fire protection systems with appropriately certified inspection contractors. Initiate and manage the overall process for completing maintenance of the firewater systems within the refineries. Provide fire protection and safety engineering support so as to continuously improve the refinery’s safety performance and readiness. Monitor federal, state, and local regulations and industry standards to ensure refinery policies, programs, and procedures pertaining to firewater and fire protection provide a safe work environment for employees and contractors while also safeguarding the local community and environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- 8 Years’ Experience in Refining, Petrochemical or Chemical Industry
- Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering, Engineering Technology, or other technical field.
- Experience working with OSHA General Industry/Construction Regulations & Related Consensus Standards.
- CSP, CIH or CFPS Preferred
- Incident Investigation/Causal Factor Analysis experience preferred
- Strong Written & Verbal Communication skills.
- Excellent Organizational & Time Management Skills.
- Ability to Interact with All Levels of the Organization
Job Duties
1. Direct compliance with all applicable standards and ensure the reliability of Corpus Christi’s Fire Protection Equipment including the firewater system, all fire water pumps and all automatic fire detection and suppression systems through various periodic inspection and testing programs.
2. Develop and implement processes that include the identification of firewater system deficiencies, immediate mitigation measures, temporary alternative protection plans, initiation of repairs, and project management of the repairs.
3. Evaluates risks associated with fire protection issues and approves new Fire Protection installations and equipment. Provide fire protection and safety engineering support for the capital projects to ensure that safety is an integral part of design improvements to the refinery. Serve as departmental resource providing technical expertise and functional guidance on loss control, fire protection, and safety matters.
4. Assist other Safety Department functions including field safety and process safety management (PSM) activities.
5. Participates as a member of the Corpus Christi Emergency Response Team and will respond to Level 2 & 3 incidents and Level 1 incidents, as required. Will be responsible for attending all necessary training to maintain Operations Chief designations and participate in response drills.
6. Work closely with all firewater system stakeholders (i.e. Manager Emergency Planning and Response, asset managers, operations, maintenance) to promptly identify, mitigate, and repair associated deficiencies. Develop periodic communication processes to update operations and maintenance on firewater system status and inspection findings.
7. Develop short term and long term capital and maintenance plans for the firewater systems based on inspection reports, repair analysis, and risk based analysis from consulting services.
