Job Description
Location: Onsite - Kohler, WI 3rd Shift 6pm - 6am (Sunday - Thursday) Opportunity The Engineering Technician III – Glass Production supports the development, control, and optimization of glass and enamel manufacturing processes within an Enamel Shop environment. This role combines hands-on technical execution, process monitoring, and data-driven problem solving to support glass smelting, frit preparation, enameling quality, and environmental control systems. Working under general direction, this role assists engineers and technical leaders to ensure safe, high-quality, and efficient production. Specific Responsibilities Monitor glass melters, material batching systems, frit prep systems, and control room interfaces. Maintain batching processes as needed to ensure correct material formulation Monitor and adjust the smelter to ensure proper glass flow and composition while maintaining environmental parameters. Respond to alarms, ECS conditions, and process deviations. Perform smelter start-up, ramping, hot hold, shutdown, and changeovers. Collect, analyze, and trend production and quality data. Generate reports supporting engineering decisions and continuous improvement. Maintain accurate testing and batch records. Execute enameling and glass quality tests including flow button, thermal expansion, opacity, color, and visual appearance testing. Prepare, test, and qualify incoming frits, pigments, and glass batches. Support batch formulation, standard flow powder preparation, and smelting operations. Troubleshoot glass and enamel defects using process and quality data. Assist with equipment installation, inspection, calibration, and troubleshooting issues. Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Environmental Control Systems: Monitoring NOx, baghouse, scrubber, and dust collection systems, document and report out. Follow all safety procedures and promote a safe work environment. Continuous Improvement Collaboration: Support engineering trials, projects, and continuous improvement initiatives. Collaborate with engineering, production, quality, maintenance, and environmental teams. Direct Union associations when supervisor is not present.
